Is KRDC 1110 am los angeles shutting down on the 22nd?

I can’t think of any broadcaster, let alone a godcaster, that would want 1110. If iHeart wanted it for Black Information Network, they’d have bought it last June for pennies on the dollar.

Seems to me like the path of least resistance is for Disney to keep 1110 and keep the transmitter warm by an indefinite LMA to Good Karma.

Look, it's not a great facility and it is AM going into 2022, but there are many many "godcasters" who would want it if the price was right. It is after-all market #2 and market #1 by revenue and market #4 in terms of number of evangelicals.

So yes, a BBN or a VCY or an AFR would totally like to be on in the Southland if it made financial sense.

disney has been done on 1110.. its running sports now.

And what kids network would buy more stations? That'd be a massive waste of money
Maybe some limited market on SXM and digital platforms like iHeart. I just looked on iHeart and they have 12 stations in the Kids & Family section including Build-A-Bear Radio and Hit Nation Junior. That is where these types of formats can find any success. Not a static-y daytime am station.
Although one can say that streaming killed Disney's presence on radio, you have to wonder who thought "I know what will save us... Putting a country spin on kids' favorite hits!" Disney Kids was already on its way out, but that decision probably sealed the deal. Also, it was much to my surprise when the Disney SiriusXM channel disappeared and was replaced with Kids Place Live. Apparently Disney is going all-in on streaming, and is now out of radio completely, except for ESPN, which of course appeals to an audience who probably grew up on AM/FM radio.

iHeart is and was maxxed out on the ownership caps in Los Angeles. They cannot purchase 1110 under any circumstance with the three AMs and five FMs they already own in the market.

Maybe Saul can buy on the cheap and bring back "Hit Radio 11, KRLA"! I would listen.

But I think KIEV 870 is now KRLA, so he can't get the legendary calls.

Saul, if he wanted 1110, wouldn't care about the KRLA calls. He'd resurrect the KSUR calls and put K-Surf back on.

But don't hold your breath.

Ooops. I totally forgot iHeart has five FMs. (Of course I also forget that 1150 exists.)

Does BBN actively buy AM facilities nowadays?

The fact that ownership rules haven't changed in 25 years is crazy. If any "small local owners" were going to get into station ownership, now would be the time. But as we can see, no one is rushing to spend their own money on radio stations except the players we all know.

I doubt it. BBN only has 4 AM stations in their portfolio, the most recent of which was acquired in 2013, in the St. Louis market.

Not included in the sale are the transmitter sites of KSPN and WMVP. KSPN holds a Construction Permit to downgrade to relocate to the site of soon-to-be former sister station 1110 KRDC Pasadena where it will drop from 50kW day/10kW night from its three tower array in Valley Village to 34kW day/2.5kW night.

Excuse me i think I got that wrong. KSPN is moving to the 1110 transmitter sight.
With significantly reduced daytime power and enormously reduced night power. At night, 710 will cover less than half of the LA market.

Perhaps that is the half they figure they don't want or need to be a going concern.
I don’t think that factored in. Disney wanted the money for the land 710’s sticks sit on now and knew they were getting out of radio.

It’s someone else’s problem. It still won’t be the worst AM signal in L.A. It’s just weird for those of us who remember when it was Gene Autry’s money machine.
