Yes! I checked also, and the logo which appears many times says 97.1.Clicked the 100 year KNX website and noticed that the KNX branding is:
KNX News 97.1 FM |
Southern California’s only 24 hour local news and traffic station

I doubt if 1070 is going anywhere.100 years of goodwill thrown in the dumpster, how pathetic is that???? David Field truly has about 100 screws loose....
I agree. Those who still use AM will continue to do, but more importantly, they are mostly traditional loyal listeners. The intent with the addition of FM has to be to both protect the franchise and to add more under-55 listeners (if those even exist).I doubt if 1070 is going anywhere.
However, with the rise of electric-powered transport, the AM signal may be even less prominent than it is now. The AM already suffers from existing electric sources interfering with the signal as a result of increased urbanization. Plus, electric cars have ditched AM due to the presence of static from components. Also, if an electric car passes you on the road, you may notice a bout of static. And there are a lot more electric cars in California.I doubt if 1070 is going anywhere.
"Goodwill" in radio is only as good as a) your last ratings and , b) whether today's listeners come back tomorrow.100 years of goodwill thrown in the dumpster, how pathetic is that???? David Field truly has about 100 screws loose....
Years ago when I heard KCBS ID both the AM and FM I gave the FM a try, but stuck with the AM since it has better coverage here in Silicon Valley."Goodwill" in radio is only as good as a) your last ratings and , b) whether today's listeners come back tomorrow.
Radio signals instantly disappear into the ether. There are no remnants, and no goodwill beyond what brings today's listeners back tomorrow.
and the only people complaining the AM isnt getting mentioned anymore are radio geeks... listeners dont care where the signal comes from, just that they can hear what they want
They know, if they are paying attention to the station; they are just not changing the preset from 1070 AM to 97.1 FM.The regular listeners know where KNX is. It's pre-set on their car radio. But they probably don't know about the simulcast.
Of course, there are few, if any, alternatives for the AM as a stand-alone so keeping some of the traditional AM listeners is the best alternative.Where have we seen an all news simulcast on FM, then completely be taken off the original AM frequency? Of the All News that I can think of, they all retain their AM frequency.
And this was a rare case of being in a market with zero full MSA coverage but a huge special interest group (government employees, lobbyists, service providers and lawyers galore) that could make them money with a special niche AM service.> Of the All News that I can think of, they all retain their AM frequency.
WTOP comes to mind. They dumped their AM signal.
WTOP, of course, moved to FM in no small part because the AM has such poor metro area coverage.
WSB has a simulcast on WSBB. WSB-FM is on a different format.Similar to WSB Atlanta:
