Super Bowl LVI Halftime Show Lineup Announced (2022)

It wouldn't be NBC at the network level. It would be up to the affiliates in Pennsylvania, and I don't think they're allowed to.
Yep the Communations Act of 1934 still states, if a station accepts any advertising for a political race, they must accept any advertising for that race that can afford their rates--and isn't allowed to censor the commercials
47 U.S. Code § 315 - Candidates for public office
I guess the stations involved can refuse any advertising for that Senate race, but what station would?

My take aways (may contain spoilers)
*I love that new score bug design!
View attachment 2611
*Matthew Stafford has an offensive line that Joe Burrow lacks, but Burrow is more clever.
*We saw OBJ, Von Miller, Eli Apple, etc. all reclaim some former glory.
*Literally most of the flags were in the 4th quarter LOL. I do wonder if the Super Bowl policy of just roll with the play will get any traction?
*The Halftime show: Good if you're into that kind of music. The rest of us could've used some translators or something. Press 1 for English, anyone?
*HFT Part 2: At least they are awesome entertainers and that house set was cool. (y)
*HFT Overall: Meh. Definitely toned down due to COVID-19. But they tried. Better luck next year.
*Other aspects of the game. Great coverage (Al Michaels and Chris Collinsworth makes for a dynamic duo), A good close match-up worth watching. It's to bad there was a few injuries, but I'm glad they didn't pull any experiments on the SB.
i liked the new graphics too, hope this graphic set isn't NFL only like the last NFL/SNF graphics cause when NBC debuted those graphics in 2018, as in 2018, the general NBC Sports graphics for all things not Olympics & Golf were clearly old and still in use, NBC needed a graphics overhaul for NBC Sports but opted to do it just for NFL and debut a side ticker for Motrosports instead of a overall graphics change and a new scorebox graphic for NHL for the postseason in their final season of their NHL deal (which was pointless as NBC was lameducked at that point for NHL on NBC) . i hope the new 2022 NFL/SNF graphics packages will be a universal (no-pun intended at NBCUniversal) graphics package overhaul at NBC Sports for all sports that aren't Olympics or Golf, even with the NBC logo clearly can be changed between NBC (the logo can be also used for NBC Sports Net RSNs), USA, CNBC (which would put the CNBC name under the NBC Peacock logo) the Peacock dots logo or blank logoless spot if it's a NFL Preseason game produced by NBCUniversal under NBC Sports Network RSNs umbrella on a non-NBC station that is not NBC O&O.

Tee Higgins definitely got away with one. Grabbed Ramsey's facemask.

That's why I was OK with the Rams winning even though, like most neutrals, I'd come into the game rooting for the underdog Bengals. Added benefit: We're spared weeks of "what if" discussion of that play on sports radio -- unless the bettors call in to bemoan that TD's effect on their wagers. Take it away and the Rams covered the spread.

Seems in regard to the halftime show, there was a tremendous amount of "Get off my lawn" from my generation. Geesh I guess "Up With People" was busy this week. My younger friends loved the show, my older ones were offended by the mere fact these artists were on stage
To be fair, most of the GOML crowd would rather have seen Aerosmith or the Stones or even Huey Lewis and the News on stage than Up With People, whose appeal was to the parents of the Boomers, not the Boomers themselves.

Try as I may, I just don't get rap/hip-hop -- indeed, I'm still fuzzy on the distinction despite having it explained to me a few times -- and I didn't watch the show. I find the genre's poetry laughably rudimentary (but then, so was most of Bob Dylan's) and its message powerful but depressing and fouled by far too much middle-school-level swearing for the sake of swearing. I struggle to accept "sampling" and synthesized beats as creative musicianship. But even with all that, I realize that it's been mainstream for more than three decades and is popular among a wide variety of people of all races and ethnicities. So what's the point of raging against its presence on your radio or TV? Just watch or listen to something else and let the fans of the genre enjoy it.

Fun fact: Aerosmith have performed with Nelly and Mary J Blige in the Super Bowl halftime show back in 2001. I wonder how the "get off my lawn" crowd felt then!

Probably the same way they felt when Aerosmith and Run-DMC collaborated on "Walk This Way.": "We still don't like rap, but we'll listen to this because the guitar riffs are awesome." Most would have no interest in a Run-DMC release that didn't feature a rock act.

Pull up the Prince half-time show and watch it. It's on YouTube. It's there.
I remember being at a Halloween/Fall party probably 25 years ago. It was a mix of adults and their (mostly) teens. A rock station had recently flipped to hip hop and R&B. That crowd couldn't have been any whiter without a can of paint, but the hip hop station was what the teens were listening to.

I suspect most of those people weren't watching broadcast TV at all last night. They were watching HBO or Netflix with the wife.
How generous of you to assume they have a mate who wants to spend time with them. 😉

The performance wasn’t my thing. That doesn’t make it bad. In fact, the people for whom it is their thing overwhelmingly had rave reviews. That alone should be an indication it hit the mark and was a good spectacle. I’m not going to call something junk when I’m clearly not qualified to make that judgement.

Also, it didn't help that Nickelback were a dominant force in 00s rock. Nickelback's popularity is perhaps one factor that kept rock from gaining new fans.
