The Breeze Blows Out of Town

Talk? but that doesn't fit what with Lance mentioned either.
Plus WWIQ did so well....
Unless they try to go younger with a talk format?
A la WKXW?
That would require more money to hire local hosts
Nah, not seeing that .
Hey i have an idea lmao, re-introduce the podcast format!
Yeah right.

Older country to XTU?
XTU leans younger.
Maybe an older country would be still young enough to be a sellable demo.

As I've said before, iHeart doesn't do classic country in major markets. Even in Austin, where they own two country stations (KASE and KVET), they run each of them as currents-based stations, and each of them do well. So if they do country in Philly, it will run Bobby Bones in the morning and lots of currents. They may try to out-do XTU in new country.

I think some sort of talk format might replace The Breeze. It makes sense after the process of elimination

They won’t go to Hot AC because otherwise they would have just transitioned over, retaining the audience

Country is a small possibility, but I’d think that they would have launched the country format immediately because much of the soft AC audience also likes country

They won’t go back to any of the failed formats
I think there's a very low likelihood of Talk on FM in Philadelphia. Variations have been tried many times over the years and there just has never been enough interest. I certainly agree that if they were going to try Hot AC again, they wouldn't be stunting; they would have just flipped.

Rock seems risky because there are so many stations already dominating those formats/demos. I'm coming around to the fact that Country is inevitable (and that the 106.1 preset in my car will be swiftly removed). What I still don't get is why they're dragging their feet. It's not entirely outside the realm of possibility that another company in town might see where the wind is blowing and flip one of their own stations to Country.

KASE is current based and KVET is gold-based "all-time country favorites".

That's the standard Country template for iHeart and probably the default guess. But with XTU already doing current country in Philly. I wouldn't rule out 106.1 landing on the more gold-based "Country Favorites" similar to KVET, which actually has a higher 6+ share in Austin than KASE. Bobby Bones could do mornings either way.

That is the only mention of the fact that 106.1 even exists and it's only the WISX calls too.
I've heard it as I have run an aircheck..

Not sure how anything talk factors into that equation. This thread has nailed down a number of reasons against talk.

I feel it’s fairly obvious where iHeart is going with this one, and Lance’s inside baseball just about cements it, to me at least. But in my opinion, while I think they could thread the needle with a MGK/MMR competitor (which is what I’d like to see personally), I think country is more likely at this point.

I will agree with other posters that it will be interesting to see if/how Audacy responds; they entirely may not but it will be worth watching out for regardless.

While I guessed country favorites earlier, let me add that Philly isn't Austin and I don't know if I can really see it being a two country-station town.

XTU's share with Country is typically somewhere in the 4's. Compare that to Beasley's rock stations -- MMR is #1 in the market with a share in the 7's and MGK usually has a share in the 6's. Don't those combined rock numbers look like a more attractive target to pick off than than country?

I thought Country could end up on 104.5, but it has to be a leading candidate for 106.1. On the other hand, here’s another thought…

What about a WKTU-like flanker format for Q? Perhaps that explains the simulcast with Q?

I think it's possible for them to flip it to country, but I just really don't think the market can support to country stations in Philly. The only people who like country in Philly already know where to turn, 92.5.

If 106.1 goes Rock, I sure hope it isn't the gimmicky version of the format found in Chicago.

I also hope it isn't a "Next Generation of Classic Rock" station. (Think YSP toward the end, for an analogue.)

If either of those flavors of Rock appear on 106.1, Beasley can rest easy.

The Breeze was only #15 in the 25-54 demo? Yet it was #10 in overall ratings. What does this say about modern humans?
It says that WOGL plays easy listening music for the modern adult.

Neither Neil, neither Sedaka nor Diamond.

Don't know if I'm among the younger or not at 47, but most Neil Diamond and Neil Sedaka songs are an immediate tune out for me. Both had hits in my lifetime, and those tend to be the ones I'll enjoy. I’ve heard the American Top-40 that ran the day and two days before I was born, and Neil Sedaka was #1 with “Laughter in the Rain.” I've been told, though, that, because AT-40 was taped roughly a week before I was born, the top song on my birthday was actually “Mandy” by Barry Manilow. Sean Ross would probably call that “peak doldrums” for top-40.
