The Breeze Blows Out of Town

The thought of "protecting" 104.5 is amusing to me. The ratings are garbage and the cash flow is garbage. What is there to actually protect?

104.5 should not at all stand in the way of any format decision involving 106.1.

iHM has a lot of toes dipped into the 18 to 34 pool between WUSL, WIOQ, and WRFF. Those folks are using radio less and less as time passes. Q102 probably draws decently with 25 to 54 females; they're a keeper. WUSL pairs well with the Urban AC. I suppose WRFF complements Q102, but if you launch a country station (another format that can pair well with CHR), do you really need to waste a signal on a very low rated and poor billing alternative format?

Should 104.5 underperform, iHeart also has the route of going country on 106.1 and a different variation of rock (not Alt) on 104.5 if they want to at least try to 1-2 punch Beasley.
If they were to do that, I would suggest putting the new Rock station on 106.1 and the new Country station on 104.5.

well it’s 5pm and no new format @ 106.1

I’m either guessing it’s gonna happen tomorrow or Friday
There's no set date or time for a station to flip.

The Breeze died a midnight. So did Y100. Max 95.7 was killed mid-song around noon. 96.5 the Point was yanked after the morning show.

So, to sum it up, the new format could happen at any time, perhaps at a time when we least expect it.

The question really was: what was the, well, point? Certainly we have questions about what this Q simulcast is about, but Barsky doing the lame and played out “station takeover” bit was just stupid, to be blunt.

As an archivist, I'm just upset at the uncertainty of when it flips. I wanna roll on my tape deck to capture it but no one yet knows when that'll take place. Guess I just gotta keep my eyes on here and the radio on.

Exactly.

Often, the company will have a date and time in mind for launching the new format.

Sometimes (like when Max 95.7 flipped to Jammin' Gold), they're rushing as quickly as possible to beat a competitor to a hot new format.

Just yesterday, iHeart pulled the trigger early in Seattle. KUBE flipped to a simulcast of Sports KJR-AM. They apparently were going to wait another day or two... but then the Seahawks traded their star quarterback away. Perfect time to go early and get people listening to sports on the new signal.

Who knows what iHeart has planned for 106.1, or when it will happen. Until then we can have fun speculating and wait in anticipation!

Why not record it into your PC? You should be able to leave your audio editor recording for hours at a time and not have to worry about missing the flip.

I'm gonna do that too, but since I'm such an analog fanatic, I love recording on to my reel to reel and Dolby HX-Pro cassette deck.

OO analog, yay!
Tell me you also record from either an analog tuner, or at least in analog and not HD, too.
I record in analog, not HD.

Reel to reel is excellent analog audio too...

The issue is with 18-24. In 25 and over, the loss of listeners is minimal and the reduction in listener TSL is much smaller.

18-24 is not a sales demo. WUSL ranks higher in 25-34 than in 18-24. WIOQ similarly does very well in 25-34. WRFF is a 25-49 station; it is 18th in 18-24 which is not its target.

Q102 probably draws decently with 25 to 54 females; they're a keeper.
WIOQ's core is 25-44 females. That is what it likely sells by, too.

The issue with WRFF is not ratings, it is sales. It has had for years a power ration of less than 0.5. Their problem is that advertisers don't buy it.
