Why Conservative Talk? Sometimes it is about clearing syndicated programs in a market or that a conservative talk format pairs well as part of the advertising mix offered by the company. And sometimes a new competitor can shave off enough listeners from a stronger competitor or two to make things a bit more even. The result is the shave means you have a good shot at dollars that always went elsewhere.

Given the current situation with most AM stations, you know the thinking is the AM will likely always be in red ink, but what can it do for me in building a better portfolio that opens up my group of stations to more buys from the advertising agencies in the future? Can it help in taking a competitor down a notch or two in order to make my stations look better in comparison?

It's now how much life remains in the format or even if the station can turn a profit as long as it has other value that creates revenue in the long run. Chances are quite good a non-heritage AM upstart will never be very financially viable. Quite frankly, the salespeople don't want to sell it. When it comes to time spent and the commission, the salesperson opts for the better rated, higher spot rate FM that generates more commission dollars (ie: put in 10 hours to make $100 off the AM or $600 off the FM for the same hours).

Flipping 1090 to Talk, Premiere can bring Clay Travis and Buck Sexton to Seattle. A show in need of more affiliates. Now they can clear them in another top 20 market

Conservative talk might be a possibility, but I'm not buying it. Aren't a lot of iHeart's shows on 770 as it is? Outside of Clay and Buck and maybe another couple shows, I'm not sure how iHeart would fill a schedule in Seattle. They've got some sports betting shows, so I could see 1090 returning to full time CBS Sports, while 950 goes Fox and sports betting.

It won't be local talk. It'll be Premiere's package of syndicated talkers.
It's still stalling the inevitable. It isn't like there's a stable of Gen-Xers or Millennials waiting in the wings to replace the current Talk listeners! What is the median age of a Talk listener and what was it five or ten years ago?

770's lineup - local mornings w Bryan Suits, Bongino, local afternoons with Jason Rantz, then Ben Shapiro and Michael Knowles. To my knowledge, none of them are Premiere products.

Premiere's most successful show is "Coast to Coast AM", which is on KIRO-FM. I can see Premiere not renewing with KIRO and moving it to 1090. This would be a game changer if it happened.

Bongino and Shapiro are Cumulus. Rantz and Suits are local. Knowles works with Shapiro.

What is this website still up for? It just references “93.3” with the old KUBE logo. Seems a bit weird. This was the stunt website, seems like they’d redirect it to the KBKS website.

That's easy: 70. Ten years ago it was: 60. Mainly white males.

Nope. He's considered toxic to the trumpers. He's only in Seattle.
Medved is syndicated by GCN. We picked him up in Grays Harbor after SRN and Michael parted ways because he was too honest. Subsequently, we dropped all long-form talk programming after we lost a radio tower.

Shows you how much I follow KTTH! I for some reason thought they were running Hannity and Beck among others. Yes, conservative talk could work then.

So if iHeart does talk, that leaves KVI and KTTH and iHeart's new talker in that space.

KVI's ratings aren't great - and they have two local shows at least that I'm aware of.

KTTH is well branded - with an FM translator and gets a 1.4 or so. With two local hosts - Rantz having national profile. I think Bonneville likes the format, for ideological reasons. Though it's not as if a huge portion of KIRO's talk isn't also conservative. Noon to 10 PM is pretty solidly right wing.

So who's the first to exit? KVI would be my bet. But for what format? How long is Lotus going to be paying for two local talents on KVI and the overhead of KNWN?
