What was one of your favorite ways to "break the structure" a bit?

I liked scheduling the occasional random Wow song right out of the top of the hour (Fridays, weekends) or maybe out of a stopset in the 5:00 drive time hour.

Random "back to back" songs by artists is something I'd employ as well. Not driven by a feature and not announced. Just, here you go. The new one followed by maybe a gold or recurrent. Surprise!

What, if anything, did you do to "play" with the schedule?

Weather based theme songs. Rain songs in a market where it does not rain often, snow songs on day of first snowfall. "Hot" songs on a record heat day.

Celebration songs. Your home team wins a championship, etc. Songs talking about celebration or partying.

Pride songs: US wins first gold medal at Olympics in a new season.

At one station, I had keywords for songs with different moods and themes. Even had dull, ugly day keyword for "gloomy". "Hey, isn't it an ugly day out there? Well, here is a song for that..." Or cheerful songs so you could say, "... what an awful day, but here is something to make you simile a bit..."

Fun if the on-air talent can make it happen: Stupid lyric lines. Listener calls and sings the stupidest verse from a hit song. If they do it right, the song plays.

These things wear very thin unless done infrequently and with great skill from the jocks.
