Best radio station names

When I worked at Channel 2 ( engineering ) in Baltimore, driving to work in the morning in the mid 70's I loved WCAO 600 . . . on the hour they would proudly say . . . WCAO BALTIMORE, A BROADCAST SERVICE OF PLOUGH INC.

( they were owned at the time by the pharmaceutical company PLOUGH )

The way they did it, right on the hour then into the news . . . was in my opinion . . . "cool"
Naturally after the news they went right back into Top 40 RnR . . . they sounded great !!!
FUN , FAST , TIGHT and DOWNRIGHT "COOL"

Which is true in a sense, during summer Tucson's average high temperature is lower than Phoenix.
When I was a kid (50's) that used to be true. Weather reports would show a difference of ~10 degrees in the daily high temps...but not any longer. Tucson must have moved their wx reporting station at some time because for the past decade or two the difference has been only 2-3 degrees. The big difference is that, because of size and elevation Tucson cools off as soon as the sun goes behind the mountains. Phoenix stays much warmer overnight.

After seeing a comment on a web site, I looked to see if there was a station with those call letters. From Wikipedia:

"Our signal is KRAP. Our studios are KRAP. Even our staff is KRAP."

The format is sports talk.

I listen to Merle and Duke on my way through Knoxville every time... and I don't even listen to OUR country stations here in Nashville!

From the Nashvile Dial in the past...
Radio Lightning (now Lightning 100)
The Phoenix

From San Antonio's past
The Armadillo (hot country)

from west of Ft. Worth was an Americana/Red Dirt/Classic Rock hybrid called Mandatory FM. The eliminated space between their call letters and it went by so fast I had no idea of their call letters. They lasted a few years and seemed to do okay.

Liberty, Texas had an FM at 99.9 that went by "Shine All Nines"

La “zalza” tiene una radio, by Zeta 93 in Puerto Rico.

I painted the original rendition of the logo with a house painter's brush on a piece of construction plywood in my back yard, and then took it to Badillo / Compton to be "cleaned" and made into final form for TV, buscards, decals and T-shirts.

https://davidgleason.com/1979-Z-93-Puerto-Rico.htm has a bunch of examples of the use of the name and logo as well as the first two ratings periods with a 22.5 and a 33.5 share in a 30 station market.

Over in Sevier County, it's Watson 104.1 (what?)

That's actually pretty cool. Thanks for giving us one of the most iconic radio logos in all of PR.

KRLC AM Lewiston, Idaho once identified as being in the “Seaport Cities”, though about 300 miles inland from the ocean. The idea was that the Snake River (tribulation of the Columbia River), came through the market, probably to benefit some of either the owners interests or advertisers interests. Always thought that was a bit far fetched.

That's weird. I guess Snake--->Columbia--->Pacific Ocean. On TV in that area, KLEW (CBS 3) used to identify itself as being in the "Quad Cities". I see how Lewiston is imortant, being the biggest city in the area, and then the two twin college towns, but Clarkston's what?---like 7,000? Maybe that's enough to be #4, but that's a bit of a dropoff.

Have I mentioned this one?

Back in the days of grunge, Myrtle Beach SC had a new radio station on a frequency that had been vacated, though it didn't last long because of the poor signal.

93-5 Asylum was hard rock. Ironically, when that didn't work, it was changed to easy listening around the time the beautiful music station switched to AC, but another beautiful music station came along, so the easy listening station went through a series of different formats before going Spanish. It had been called "La Que Buena" and "El Patron" during its Spanish years, and it was AC in between.
