Wolf Rock TV was one of those "blink and you'll miss it" kids shows ABC regrets ("Uncle Croc's Block", we're looking at you as well).

I digress, I was a pup in Riverside CA in 1961 and recalled KHJ. Lost track of it and all Los Angeles TV when we moved to Georgia in '65.

Here are Airchecks of KHJ9 becoming KCAL9. Thats right Pat Harvey is the only person from KHJ to KCAL9 transition that is remaining at the station only this time she also has to do segments for CBS Los Angeles News and CBS2 News too besides KCAL9.

I was actually watching when the call letters changed, and technically everything after midnight on the KHJ schedule was aired under the KCAL calls.

Did you also watch when Channel 2 changed its call from KNXT to KCBS on April 1-2, 1984?

I'm pretty sure I watched the special that aired beforehand, so I think so. But I distinctly remember the KHJ to KCAL change.

This is where Jerry Dunphy went to after he left KABC Eyewitness News in 1989. Ch 9 was crippled at the time but rised again with their new image. This is where Jerry was for the rest of his natural life until he died in early 2002, except for his 1995-97 return to Ch 2. During his shortlived comeback at the station he once anchored in the 60s & early 70s, it was already KCBS and co-anchored Action News with his old Eyewitness colleague Ann Martin. Jerry Dunphy & Tawny Little co-anchored together on both Chs 7 & 9.

He started his career in Peoria, was news director at the short-lived UHF station KEDD in Wichita in 1954, then returned to his hometown of Milwaukee after a year, from which he moved to WBBM-TV Chicago. He went from there to co-owned KNXT in 1960, then to KABC in 1975, which is where you nicely pick up the timeline.

(P. S. - I think the word you were looking for in the second sentence was "rose" ...)

He joined Ch. 9 just months before its callsign change. Both he and the equally iconic Hal Fishman were inspirations of The Simpsons' Kent Brockman!
