MORE changes in NYC - BIG NEWS Scott Shannon retires soon from CBS-FM

Here is Scott Shannon with his 4th to last show from yesterday morning. The countdown is still ticking to his final show, and this is going to be the best part of the show where it will be renamed as the Scott Shannon Studio.

In addition, towards the end of the show, you’ll hear a song by Taylor Swift called “Shake It Off”. So I decided to ditched this one and replaced with their version by the Kidz Bop Kids, because I love Kidz Bop so much. They were popular than the Jackson 5 and the Osmonds. Enjoy!

With no disrespect to Scott Shannon, IMHO it should be named the Harry Harrison Studio as Harry was the Morning Mayor from 1980-2003.

It was perfect timing, but Scott really showed how to properly execute the CHR format with high energy and fun that had great appeal with adults, especially women who want to feel they are still connected to the current generation.

The Zoo, while known by radio from Tampa, really got exposure on Z100. He really defined how take all the great things from 60s, early 70s Top 40 radio and make it just scream 80s.

With KIIS coming into it's excellence and showing the more laid back way to do the format, Scott Shannon showed how to do it with energy and get great adult ratings, which the Hot hits style couldn't do. Hot Hits did do a lot to keep the format alive during the bad times of the early 80s, the final part of the fm transition too.

While the music getting better was just as big a part, between KIIS and WHTZ, CHR in every market had two different approaches that were on fire. Those who did a direct copy had varying results, most not great, but when they fine tuned their stations to their markets it got great demos 12-54.

Scott also worked with James to create the greatest radio jingles in history and they still are unmatched.

I love how the big New York stations, their programers, consultants, and corporate masters spent hundreds of thousands in research to conclude that CHR would never work in New York (yeah not their boring way) Scott put his vision on, they laughed and said a#3 to PLJ and KTU in teens, no adults will listen look at Hot His. They couldn't hear or understand the difference. As we know Scott's vision shot to #1 and became more than just a radio station, more than just a morning show, people identified with a friend on the radio, an under dog, a departure from the radio people who sounded and acted like they believed they were gods above the people and talking AT the audience.

Thanks Scott Shannon for making radio special for a whole new generation, and what your brilliance did with parents and kids bonding every day through your creation!

I heard the news that… get ready, you are going to be disappointed, John Foxx is going to take over Scott Shannon to do mornings on WCBS-FM starting in early 2023.

I am not happy with the station, and John Foxx is not going to be my cup of tea. I am moving on to WMTR to listen to Allan David Stein instead of John Foxx. Not a huge fan of John Foxx. He is going to be the brand manager at WCBS-FM.

If you have not seen this, take a look, you’re not going to be happy with it.

Audacy names John Foxx as Brand Manager and morning host of WCBS-FM in New York following the retirement of industry icon and Hall of Famer Scott Shannon. He'll host a new morning show weekdays from 6-10am, launching this February. Foxx replaces Jim Ryan as Brand Manager, who remains Senior Vice President of Programming for Audacy New York and Brand Manager for WNEW-FM. Foxx will also continue as Brand Manager of Country WXBK-FM-HD2.

"John is a rare talent that has achieved success on and off the air in New York City, which makes him the perfect selection to lead the legendary WCBS-FM into its next era," said Audacy New York Market President Chris Oliviero. "He is well known, respected and liked by his colleagues in our building which will make the transition smooth and seamless. John also has big feet which will come in handy as he has some of the biggest shoes to fill in radio history both as morning host and brand manager at 101.1FM. We are excited to welcome John home."

"I'm in love with NYC and the Tri-state area and am really excited to join the content team at the iconic WCBS-FM," said Foxx. "Being a part of the soundtrack of what wakes up NYC every day is a dream come true. Thank you to Susan Larkin, Jeff Sottolano, Chris Oliviero and Jim Ryan for all of their support and this incredible opportunity to lead one of Audacy's elite properties."

Foxx most recently served as Brand Manager of KILT-FM (100.3 The Bull) in Houston and Regional Vice President for Country Programming at Audacy. A native New Yorker, his 23-year career in the radio industry includes experience in multiple formats, with stops as Program Director and afternoon host of WPLJ and Brand Manager of WNSH-FM in New York.

This is their character’s reaction to where John Foxx takes over Scott Shannon in mornings at WCBS-FM starting in 2023.

The announcement of a successor has been made, and it's a curveball.

John Foxx, the former PD of WNSH, is returning to New York not only as WCBS-FM's program director/brand manager, but also as morning show host.

Not only is this the end of the era of Scott Shannon on WCBS, but also the end of Jim Ryan's tenure as WCBS's program director; he remains at Audacy New York as SVP of Programming, and continues his oversight of WNEW-FM.

I think we have all figured out at this point that you are not happy with the station.

Yes, after Scott Shannon leaves this Friday, and that will be it. I read about that about an hour ago that John Foxx is replacing Scott Shannon and I’m not looking forward to listen to his new morning show starting this February. I heard that Jim Ryan is leaving as PD at WCBS-FM where he remains at WNEW-FM at 102.7 as PD, and John Foxx will be the new CBS-FM where he succeeds Joe McCoy, Dave Logan, Brian Thomas, and Bill Brown who has been PD since the very beginning. John Foxx will be the new PD and Brand Manager at CBS-FM, but I’m not looking forward to the new morning show this February. And like I said, I will flip over to WMTR and listen to Allan David Stein’s morning show.
