JACK

When i first worked with a 5-station same market common ownership cluster in 1963

That was 60 years ago. Even if you were 20 at that time, that means you're 80+. Now it all makes sense.

KRLD is no WINS though. Totally different markets.

If KRLD added an FM simulcast, I would expect a result similar to KNX in LA when they added an FM. If they just want to hold the aging (and declining) listeners KRLD has, then it might not be a bad idea.
I guess I am one of the aging and declining listeners. KRLD has traffic every 8 minutes during rush hour. They also let me know if the roads are frozen in the winter. Everybody else is too busy yakking about sports and politics to help me get to work on time and in one piece. But I understand those younger people who aren't coming into the office anymore don't really need that.

I was 16 when I interned at Organization Radio Centro in Mexico and was 18 when I built my own first station. I still consult youth based stations that target demos like 16-24 or 20-30 and so on (different demos in different nations).

I was not "too young" then and am not too old now. We measure ability by performance, not by age.

Heck, I am younger than our President, in fact! Bob Iger, the head of Disney, a definite youth focused company, is 71. I could go on....

Bragging about being younger than our President isn't bragging.
I'm guessing, then, that you don't wish to reach that age yourself if you dislike it so much!

KJKK has 753 total spins on "Friends In Low Places" since it first played the song in May 2005... about one play every nine days, the kind of record designed just to get people to say "WTF" or "oh wow."

Garth has a very special relationship with Dallas. His first TV special was shot there. I suspect no other Jack stations play Garth.

WCJK Nashville has played it over 1000 times since 2005. KJKX San Antonio (which is on the national feed) has played it 200+ times since 2012. WQSR Baltimore 300+ times. Many non-Jack Variety Hits stations including WBEN-FM Philadelphia, KBPA Austin, WRRK Pittsburgh, WAVF Charleston, WSMW Greensboro, WFKL Rochester are over 800 total spins.

All pretty strong country markets. It is currently Garth's #1 most-played gold song.

From what I can see, it never charted in Billboard's Hot 100.

Friends In Low Places used to occasionally get a spin on Audacy’s 95.7 The Spot in Houston, but I haven’t heard it on the station in quite a while.

what is happening could be Jack maybe dunking on the demise of 97.1 The Eagle
I was listening to Jack tonight. They ripped on the demise of the Eagle a bit. They said they were giving away a trip to see Metallica in Phoenix, saying that they were the only station left in town that has anything to do with Metallica.
When did Jack return to being jockless?
J. T. still runs the 7:20 Game weekday mornings, so not completely jockless.

Metallica on KZPS

Also didn't Alt and KXT play a Metallica song or two at one point?

wasn't Dallas the city where Garth saw his early success before he made it big in Country Music
Just before he broke out, he was the semi-official house band at a local C+W club. I remember hearing several of his tunes there that later became big hits for him. It wasn't the Western Place or Belle Star (he may have played those at one time or another) or maybe the Country Club but something along those lines.

I seem to recall he met his first wife while working there. He may have also been a part time bouncer as well.

I’m sure Paul Slavens has played some of their songs on his show, and KXT has probably played a Metallica tune once in a very rare occasion for a band member’s birthday or a theme, but Metallica is way too hard rock to be in KXT’s rotation. I think Alt will play Enter Sandman every once in a while. I pay attention to Alt’s Facebook page, mostly to try and tempt other people into listening to KXT and the other non comms, and some guy requested Metallica and they apparently played Enter Sandman.

I’ve heard Metallica on KZPS before. Alt is reported to have played Metallica before, but I haven’t heard them on Alt. Jack definitely isn’t the only game in town for Metallica, not by a long shot! It doesn’t matter what Jack thinks. And Metallica on KXT? Wow! I’d love to hear the calm sounding KXT DJ’s introduce Metallica.
