Just the usual mix on 1140 AM this morning - KGEM w/ EWTN, KHTK 'Sacramento Sports', CHRB with a TOH ID, but not finding well-wanted KXST Las Vegas just days before they go defunct. They switch to day power at 0630 PT. I have a few more sunrise tries before they go off for good...

From Albuquerque, NM
Had some free time tonight so turned on the desk radio to see what I could find.
This is a new one. KSTP 1500 from St. Paul, Minnesota. Very weak but was able to ID with top of the hour station identification.
WOAI 1200 from San Antonio is around with a bit of fading in and out.
KRVN 880 from Nebraska is booming in like a local, as it does most nights.
Nothing from the west coast. Might be a bit too early.
Good stuff, Scott. Welcome to the board and happy hunting!

My own beach location 1140 mystery continues... The instrumental music I was hearing is still present. But much weaker than earlier this month, and I still haven't been able to ID it. I've ruled out Cuba, and my best guess is still either Texas or Mexico. I did ID the Miami 1140 a few mornings ago after sunrise, but no music on that station. And the Cubans were seemingly leaving that signal alone. (Unlike 670. 710, and 1180).

For the past few nights I have been hearing WZAM Ispheming, Michigan on 970 with very good signal playing rock music and using "Rockin Eagle" slogans. Certainly not on their licensed 62 watts nighttime power.
I’ve been hearing them at night for much of the winter. Sometimes very strong, other times not. Eastern Iowa.

Does anyone know who'd be playing easy listening instrumentals on 940? Heard on.the Edinburgh IN SDR around 8:30am Eastern Saturday morning
Real good question. Where I am this month 940 has been XEQ, WINZ, and WYLD. Definitely not one of those. Could something be up with Montreal?

It's possible. The website (assuming it's a current website) lists the French translation of "The Golden Years". Otherwise I was getting stuff to the northwest, including WEAQ on 1150 and CBW.

It's a little auroral tonight. I'm on the Edinburgh IN SDR, with Cuba dominating 640 and 690 (Radio Progreso). I sat on 620 wondering what the hip-hop station was and it was Rebelde/./ 670, etc. Weird weather this evening, I'm trying to find EAS tones.

On the SDR in the St. Louis area (Illinois side), I got strong reception tonight from the big New York AMs, even WINS 1010 and WEPN 1050. I thought the latter two were next to impossible in that part of the country. They are next to impossible from my home in Iowa.. I’ve only heard WINS once in the Midwest, while traveling in northern Illinois several years ago I think. Is this as unusual as I think it is? Auroral conditions or unusual weather patterns at work probably?

2am local time. Up early on a Monday morning and have half an hour before I need to get ready for work. So checking out the AM band.
640 KFI is a new catch. Never gotten that one before. My second LA station after KNX. 680 KNBR is listenable with a bit of static at my location this morning. First Bay Area station. West coast is rolling in to ABQ this morning.

1060 KDUS Tempe AZ (500W, 1018 mi) mixed with KDYL South Salt Lake UT (596 mi, 149W) at this moment. KDUS with NAU basketball, KDYL with La Mejor IDs.
There is a very weak Spanish station underneath KGEM/KHTK on 1140, still looking for Las Vegas and not having luck, with less than 36 hours left before KXST goes dark for good.
500 W KRPU 1210 Rocklin CA is mixed with 250W ESPN, KHKR Washington UT.
La Raza 1380, KVSM Santa Maria CA, in on 500W mixed with KTKZ and a weak to fair KRKO. Oh, if only the western WA/SW BC stations would just fade away for 4-5 hours...
It seems as though we are down to G1 and G2 level storms, maybe the peak was last night.

A few moments before bedtime so let's see what we can find tonight. (If you hadn't noticed, I work early AM shift. 8pm is very late for me. LOL).
710 KNUS from Denver is coming in quite well. Still no sign of KOA. I used to get it every night when I lived in Texas, as far as here in New Mexico, no dice. 850 is static.
820 WBAP from Fort Worth is somewhat listenable. No luck with KRLD from Dallas.
WOAI 1200 from San Antonio is surprisingly strong this evening.
Unable to ID the signal on 1030 AM. Seems to be sports talk but fades in and out so only catch a word here and there.

Sitting on the Sundre, Alberta SDR right now and it's definitely more auroral at 51N latitude. 1400 KVTO Berkeley is in mixed with several others, KLPZ-1380 Parker AZ, several others. Heard the opening music to Adventures in Odyssey on 1300 just after 9p MT, very weakly - turns out to be KROP Brawley CA // KGBA-100.1...500 W 1,301 mi! KWRU Fresno mixed with them w/ Spanish Religion.
At 9:06 KROP has taken back over, Adventures in Odyssey easily // to 100.1 stream. KAPL has a similar format but not //

I just logged them here in WA! Auroral conditions are getting hot again.

1300 - KROP CA, Brawley; beautiful S7-level signal at times with Adventures in Odyssey at 2020-2026 PT 2/27, followed by a slam-dunk ID "KGBA would like to thank ???", then fade out to KCMY/Carson City. Well-wanted! NEW #818, only 500W at 973 miles. Have a recording to share later.

980 has KFWB Los Angeles with local Selah phased. Also an UNID Spanish Rel. station in there, maybe KESQ? Would be new.
Edit - also hearing KSVC Richfield UT in there with local WX. Great conditions! That's ALSO new! NEW #819, 1KW at 691 miles

Strange UNID on 1110 with Phil Collins' 'You Can't Hurry Love' in and out with Bend OR...is XERED still on?

KYET-1170 AZ very, very weak under KLOK San Jose!! My guess is someone forgot to switch to 1 watt. If not, that's one mighty fine watt of RF!!

More Au fun...

KTIP-1450 Porterville CA 1KW 728mi // stream, Regional Mexican. A country station on 1490, KYNR phased, likely KRKC King City CA, 1KW 715mi.
KROP-1300 Brawley, 500W, STILL in with Faith & Finance! KCMY Carson City underneath and other UNIDed stuff buried.
KIFM-1320 Sacramento mostly alone with ESPN, no sign of usual CHMB or KXRO. KWKW-1330 L.A. all alone. KFIV-1360 Modesto CA with news/talk, local ads.
KERI-1410 Bakersfield CA with an old broadcast of Through the Bible with J. Vernon McGee...best EVER...perfectly listenable S7 to S8 signal at only a kilowatt. There's an SSer way underneath (likely unneeded KCAL Redlands). Did hear KMYC Marysville earlier with local car dealer commercial.
1520 is nothing but KVEN Port Hueneme with SS news/talk. KMZT-1260 Beverly Hills mostly alone on channel but weak, something else (sounds Spanish) buried under.
Spanish jazz music on 1220 is // XEB-AM stream, Mexico City!

OK, I have a new one for my corner of California: KTNN 660 AM out of Window Rock, AZ (they play some pretty interesting stuff!). There's a bit of static, and a bit of some other station underneath that I can't make it out, but overall it's perfectly listenable with an SS of 5 (on a scale of 10). This with my Radioshack DX-398 and Tecsun AN-100 tunable loop antenna.

I'm listening for more....

Updates:

#1: Getting something on 690 AM. I'm guessing it's XEWW out of Tijuana, Mexico (they're playing tacky modern pop music), but I'm not sure. There's splatter from adjacent stations (most likely 680 from SF, which is a local), and there's some minor fading, but the signal is otherwise similar to KTNN's.

#2: I'm getting KKOH 780 out of Reno, NV. Very clear signal with a SS of ~7 out of 10. Just now fading out.

#3: I *think* I'm getting KOA on 850 EDIT: It's definitely KOA. Decent signal sometimes.

Amazing.

And two of your catches, KROP and KTIP, were two of my best catches from Cleveland, Ohio, back in the early 60's.

Not hearing KXST Vegas this morning. One more chance at sunset tonight. There's something buried underneath KHTK with a male and female host but not // KXST stream. I did hear a very weak ID that I will post here later. Maybe KNWQ Palm Springs? Not // KGEM or CHRB
