WWE pushes for legal betting on its events

Serioiusly!
While I've admittedly not read the article, the first questions that come to mind are, why should it be legal and who in their rigtht mind would bother, betting on matches where the outcome is predetermined and storylines are scripted? WWE is a sport for sure as the wrestlers need to be in great physical shape to do what they do in the ring, but it's more like a soap opera than a sports 'contest'. Kayfabe admittedly exists. Lots of details about the matches, including the predetermined winner, are worked out ahead of time.

The other question is, what would prevent the WWE from altering the outcome of matches, even on the fly while the wrestlers are already going at it, based on betting odds if they really wanted to?

Professional wrestling would have to become legitimate to be able to do that. Not gonna happen. It's been fake for at least 70 years, and has been successful as essentially a modern-day vaudeville act. Only a fool would place a bet on something with a predetermined outcome. Yeah, I know...

If WWE gets betting on matches legalized I'm becoming a millionaire
I remember running a just-for-fun office pool on WrestleMania 3. Surprisingly, no one turned in a perfect sheet. Don't forget, wrestling also has outcomes like draws, no contests, double disqualifications, double count-outs, reversed decisions. I suppose those could all be lumped into an "other" bet, though.

As for the chances of this ever being approved, it's close to "no way" in a country like this, which is still very conservative about gambling in general. As the article mentions (for Mikey's benefit, since he chooses not to read it for some reason), gamblers in other countries can and do bet legally on award shows like the Oscars, where the winners are known in advance but their identities are known only to a select few sworn to secrecy until the air date. If that kind of gambling is ever legalized here, then WWE has a chance, although if I were a regulator (or a bettor), I'd trust the Academy not to try any funny business a whole lot more than I'd trust any organization headed by Vince McMahon!

Incidentally, the outcome that most of those WM3 pool participants got wrong was Junkyard Dog vs. Harley Race. Race's victory was regarded as a major "upset."

Had a crappy internet connection at the time. Sorry to have offended. I'll try and do better.
No offense taken, nor intended by myself. I just wondered why you'd commented before reading the article. I shouldn't have even hinted at criticism, since I've done the same myself a few times. I'll also try to do better.

Would've been regarded as an all out riot, had the contest been held in New Orleans. JYD was, at one point in his career, hotter than anyone before him or since. Fantastic perspective, CT. Agreed in whole.
