San Diego Radio Ratings: February 2023

Covering the survey period from Thu. 2/2/2023 thru Wed. 3/1/2023, age 6+ overall:

Sunny 98.1 takes the crown (6.4-6.8) with significant up-ticks from 100.7 Big FM, Rock 105.3, KSON, Z90.3, La Poderosa 860AM.
Downturns for KPBS, Magic 92.5, KOGO, KyXy, Radio Latina 104.5.

91X has 1.9 while Alt 949 has 2.0. 97.3 The Fan outpoints 760 KGB 1.6-1.2.

Alt 94.9 is a weird one. I noticed they went more gold based like 91X is, but they play currents more times than we do, even if they have less currents than 91X does.
I think if 91X upped currents to 2-3 times an hour, it could help the ratings boost a bit,

KLQV Amor has been going down for the fourth time now. Need to catch up to XLTN as their Spanish-language music library gets refreshed almost every week. They play more currents compared to what KLQV plays. Even KLVE in LA plays more currents compared to the other Amor networks.

Amor stations (other than "K-Love Radio Amor" in LA) are simply an update of the Recuerdo format, which is technically the US Mexican / Mexican American equivalent of "Jack" but with a base in regional Mexican and light pop instead of Jack's rock.

KLVE in LA is historically, going back to 1995, the equivalent of a Hot AC. XHLTN is like that, but has always been more pop and adult CHR leaning. KLVE is also currently unlike any of the other Amor stations, as its principal audience is Central American, as all the other Spanish language station in LA aim at Mexicans / Mexican Americans.... AND... the LA Hispanic sample is more than doubly weighted towards Central Americans.

The KLVE from LA format was tried on a number of HBC stations two decades ago and it failed everywhere because the format had become entrenched and traditional in LA, but was DOA everywhere else.

The problem is that the programmer of KLQV does not understand the format, the music or its heritage.
