NPR temporarily stopped it's twitter accounts in a "state-media" beef with Elon Musk

NPR reports that the 'government-funded media' label has been removed from its twitter account:


CEO Elon Musk told NPR reporter Bobby Allyn via email early Friday morning that Twitter has dropped "all media labels" and that "this was Walter Isaacson's suggestion." Isaacson, who wrote the biography of Apple founder Steve Jobs, is said to be finishing a biography on Musk.

NPR has not yet resumed posting on twitter.

So what do you think? Elon throwing Walter Isaacson under the bus to cover his own tracks? Isaacson is kind of a narcissistic d*ck too, so there might be something to it.

What I think is everybody listens to somebody. Jack Dorsey had a team of people who defined twitter policy and he listened to them. Musk fired all those people. But he still has people around him telling him stuff. He obviously listens. He's still learning about what he bought. He thought of it strictly in terms of being a user. That's different from being an owner. Everything he does has consequences, and he's learning that. He still has to find a way to win back advertisers and that won't happen by suing them.

But my first thought was: If I was at NPR, I would want to get an interview with Walter.

Elon surrounds himself with suck-ups and yes men all looking to get money, or ride on his jets. Not exactly reliable or objective points of view.
He's still learning about what he bought. He thought of it strictly in terms of being a user.

Elon needs to temper his ego. Good luck with that.

But for as much as a do*che as Issacson is; he'll know NPR is going to ask that question. Therefore I doubt Walter would want to do an interview with NPR.
 
NPR updated their earlier story with this comment from a company spokesperson:

NPR spokeswoman Isabel Lara said the network did not have anything new to say on the matter. Last week, Lansing told NPR media correspondent David Folkenflik in an interview that even if Twitter were to drop the government-funded designation altogether, the network would not immediately return to the platform.

Likely because Tesla has a manufacturing plant in China, and sells a lot of Tesla's to...say it together now: China.

SpaceX has used a lot of Russian rocket engine tech, so Elon is always going to play nice with Russia verses media organizations.

And now Tesla has to deal with wrongful death allegations at their Chinese factory.

SHANGHAI (AP) — Government inspectors concluded Tesla Inc.’s Shanghai factory where an employee died in a Feb. 4 accident has weaknesses in its safety measures, news reports said Wednesday.

The emergency bureau of Shanghai’s Pudong district recommended an unspecified penalty for Tesla, the business news magazine Caixin and other outlets reported. They cited a copy of the report posted on the city government website.

The report was removed from the website Wednesday. An employee of the emergency agency who would give only his surname, Wu, said Tesla asked for the report not to be made public because it contained photos of its production process.

Yes, there was verification of media personalities, organizations, reporters, celebrities, brands, etc, there was documentation required and vetting done.

He's a self promoter, so he will do an interview with them at some point.
Heard more about this story on NPR Saturday morning. They reported that Twitter decided to drop the inaccurate labels, and that Elon said he decided to drop them after consulting with Walter Isaacson. The reporter said NPR reached out to Isaacson for comment, but he refused comment.

The US has fallen that far behind?

It wasn't too many years ago that the US seemed to basically be the number one designer and manufacturer of rockets in the world, and was at the leading edge of new developments. Perhaps this was never actually true, but was actually an artifact of an apparently successful Cold War-era propaganda campaign designed to fool the USSR into believing we were more advanced than we are? I don't think so, but who knows?

Nevertheless, it looks rather bad politically for Musk (as CEO of SpaceX) to be dealing with Russia at all, what with the war and such.

I mean, this was probably part of a partnership established years ago when Russia-US relations were somewhat better, but still....

Oh, well.
