KITS 105.3 Stunting... Return of Live 105?

A while ago, I suspected that Audacy may try to revive Live 105 as a classic alternative station in the style of 91X San Diego or 99X Atlanta. According to RadioInsight, that may now be a very viable possibility.

Surprising move, if it actually happens, for the reason BigA stated. Live 105 had similarly mediocre ratings for more than a decade, yet Dave FM is being tossed to the curb after just a couple years?

I sure hope a reborn Live 105 doesn't feature a mediocre playlist similar to that found on KROQ. I love KROQ's "ROQ of the 90s" marathons that seem to happen once or twice a quarter, but their normal playlist is underwhelming.

Most of the Audacy alternative stations seem to have pretty tight gold libraries with minimal song depth per artist and a lot of repetition. Typical Kevin Weatherly. He's doing a better job than Kaplan, though, which isn't saying much. 99X in Atlanta sounds far better than any of Audacy's stations.

I wonder if Kevin Klein will make a return appearance at 105.3 via simulcast? His numbers in L.A. don't seem so hot.

Probably will see a lot of voice tracking. Their station in Detroit has only 1 jock based locally. Everyone else is piped in from LA, DFW or Seattle.

That hasn't been the way these classic alt stations have worked. In Atlanta, they brought back a lot of the heritage talent.
I’m guessing Dallas Osburn will likely return, as he was part of the first incarnation. Not sure about Axelsen, Masters or any of the others.

If this reborn ‘Live 105’ is done right, it will likely also include plenty of new wave tracks the station broke in the 80s.

I called this awhile ago. Dave fm never did well. And, it just makes sense to return to a format that people at least know on a small signal

Which brand was killed first - Alt 105.3 (Live 105) or KFOG?

I remember the last of those two stations left standing had abysmal ratings. Not sure why Audacy feels Alternative would magically produce better results this time.

I think dumping Dave FM is a mistake.

I wouldn’t be surprised if they go back to alternative, but as a gold intensive “classic alternative” format with the heritage branding as “Live 105”. I understand that the demos in the market are not the most “alternative rock” friendly, but I would think that their numbers were down towards the end due to the Audacy’s poor choice to remove much of the local programming with a shift to the nationwide “cookie-cutter” format and the pandemic.

I have noticed that their alternative stations in Kansas City and Portland are up significantly since they reverted back to allowing the stations to add more local programming and personalities. (at least in the 12+ numbers – again it would be nice to see the complete numbers.)

However, I’m surprised they didn’t give the “Dave-FM” format more time. Unfortunately, the ratings that are posted the public don’t really tell us how they’re doing in their key demos. I would love to see the complete numbers for the station. I’m also curious to know how they were billing, and if there was any significant upward trend.
