KITS 105.3 Stunting... Return of Live 105?

rock and alt rock are both very weird formats, you have some in both Rock and Alternative Rock formatted stations that will outright play new music from bands like Ice Nine Kills and I Prevail, very popular when you look at streaming services but they don’t have the same wide spread appeal.

A few of the major markets like Philadelphia’s WMMR play a lot of modern hard rock

I’m not sure how “alternative” is supposed to differ considering small markers have modern rock only, something like Sirius XM’s octane.

It seems like Rock stations add either modern rock or classic rock to fill format gaps (ie: no classic rock competitor) when they’re not formatted specifically to be classic.

On a similar note I’ve been complaining KSAN needs to try that for a while.

What you've described sounds a bit like Audacy's KYCH in Portland (97.1 Charlie). That station, which I believe is programmed by Mark Hamilton, crosses the line between classic/adult hits and very light classic alternative. It's not very deep on the alternative side at all, but you'll hear New Order, No Doubt, Violent Femmes, Depeche Mode and others, which is unusual for a classic hits station (maybe not so much for a true adult hits station). Seems to work for them, as they're usually in the top 5-10 6-plus (*usual disclaimer here about 6-plus being meaningless; I know.)

93.1 Jack FM is sort of like that as well.
 
I was hoping to hear more late 80s to late 90s gems as part of the playlist. It's only day one - I realize that. Music overall is decent, but I won't call it impressive.

In contrast, 99X made a big splash with its song choices when it relaunched.
 
I don't think people in general are too keen on revivals. They should just call it Alt 105.3 (though that is a revival of sorts....but doesn't carry as much weight.) Though that probably carries a negative connotation to the consolidation days. Probably a different name.

I Prevail actually charted on Alternative for about 12 weeks earlier this year with “Bad Things”. I think Alternative is trying out a lot of “scene” punk and metal bands right now because frankly not a lot else is working. That type of music is one of the last things the format hasn’t tried yet.

A: Nine. One to conduct a CEQA study so no one gets sued, one to change the bulb, and seven to hold a protest claiming the old bulb has historic preservation status and shouldn't be replaced.

Is it a smart idea to be copying KROQ? I don’t know how much the thing may bill, so it could be doing great for all I know, but I don’t see that it’s doing much better than the past few years overall…which isn’t good to begin with. Seems like it’s not the hot topic it used to be.

I don't know that they're "copying KROQ." For one thing, KROQ has an air staff. Live 105 does not. Audacy and John Allers has a lot of stations in the company to look at. But they all have different circumstances, with different demographics. All we know right now about Live 105 is the music. That's a very small part of what makes a radio station.
 
I thought the "launch" of the station at 10:53 AM was lackluster and a tell-tale sign of things to come. You would have thought that an up-tempo DJ or staff member would have chimed in, and welcomed the listening audience in order to build enthusiasm.

That is the best ad for a radio app I have heard in awhile.

Also now playing Eminem - Lose Yourself, not very alternative.
