Nexstar stations removed from DirectTV over yet another carriage dispute - Nexstar wants viewer fees doubled

Seems this happens every several months:

Nexstar Stations and NewsNation Go Dark on DirecTV as Carriage Contract Expires

NATION'S LARGEST LOCAL TV OUTAGE BEGINS AFTER NEXSTAR DEMANDS MORE THAN DOUBLE THE CURRENT VIEWER FEES FROM DIRECTV

The nation's largest local broadcaster, Nexstar Media Group, is forcing the temporary loss of more than 200 stations for DIRECTV, DIRECTV STREAM and U-verse customers in more than 100 metro areas following the recent contract expiration. After denying Nexstar's demands for DIRECTV to pay more than double the previous fees for the same content, DIRECTV lost the rights to offer Nexstar-controlled ABC, CBS, NBC, FOX and CW stations in select markets, as well as NewsNation.

Since the end of 2022 alone, Nexstar has threatened or removed stations it owns or controls from DIRECTV (Oct. 2022), Verizon FIOS (Oct. 2022), Comcast Xfinity (Dec. 2022), DISH Network (Jan. 2023), FuboTV (Feb.-March 2023) and Altice USA-Optimum (March 2023).

Here is another one DirecTV has sued Nexstar in the past due to it's role in providing affiliation and News content contracts with companies like Mission and White Knight Broadcasting.

"Nexstar continues to manipulate loopholes to exceed the 39% national ownership cap, and has made public statements lauding its 68% reach across all U.S. TV households," DirecTV said.

Both companies added that they are in discussions to return Nexstar programming to DirecTV and are hopeful for a quick resolution.

DirecTV, which is 70% owned by AT&T (T.N), had sued the Irving, Texas based Nexstar in March, claiming it violated antitrust law by scheming to drive up retransmission fees for stations broadcasting the four major networks.

Twenty-seven stations owned by Mission and White Knight have been unavailable for DirecTV customers since October 2022 after they failed to agree on retransmission fees. Nexstar is expected to renegotiate its retransmission agreements with DirecTV, which is 70% owned by AT&T, possibly by later this year.

The lawsuit said that by conspiring to set retransmission fees, the station groups forced providers and their customers "to pay supracompetitive prices or lose access to the most popular broadcast television programming."

The lawsuit claims that Nexstar, which previously owned Mission and White Knight's stations, still retains the ultimate economic interest in the stations even though they are supposed to be independent.

yep, those channels owned by Nexstar ain't coming back until that suit is settled in court. glad i went back to Dish last month.

Didn't these 2 just have a summer long blackout a few years ago.
Yep. From the interwebs:
"A carriage dispute with AT&T resulted in the removal of more than 120 Nexstar stations across 97 markets from AT&T's DirecTV, DirecTV Now and U-verse platforms, which began at 11:59 p.m. on July 3, 2019, and ended on August 29, 2019."

The nearest K-Mart for most of the US is Westwood, New Jersey. brb, headed for Jersey!

(just buy a TV antenna from your nearest Kmart and be done with it)
Kirk Bayne

From a year ago next month..As of then, there were only 3 Kmarts left in the entire USA. "Running down to your nearest Kmart" hasn't been a thing for most people in this country for years.

I saw a YouTube video on someone's channel a few months ago in one of the 3 remaining KMarts which looked very empty and only had about $150K worth of useless items LOL.

Why didn't Sinclair say no to Nexstar we're not going to do that. Since Sinclair hasn't renewed with The CW yet which ends at the end of Aug I guess not to rock the boat with The CW owner in Nexstar.
