Well known and skilled LA talk programmer sent me a message saying,
"While the story is incorrect, there some facts that Alex Silverman chose to ignore. KNX does break the simulcast for at least two hours on Saturday morning for "CarPro" informercial. I believe they run another informercial(s) on Sunday morning. They have carefully managed the infomercial time to not exceed 5% of weekly program time in order to maintain the total line reporting. So it magically isn't happening!
Someone listening early on weekend mornings might jump to the wrong conclusion that the station has changed formats. They just couldn't resist the "crack" of radio sales departments, infomercials. KNX was running this dreadful program before they went to FM."
What is being referred to is that Nielsen allows a small percentage of weekly non-simulcast hours while still listing a station as a full single line simulcast.
That rule was intended to allow stations with sports contracts that did not allow simulcasts to still get SLR listings. The rule was not intended for commercial paid programs. But the rule is not specific and thus allows it.
