104.9 The Horn Will be No More

Radioinsight is reporting that 104.9 and 105.3 will be LMA'ed. Best guess is that they are in the process of being sold.

Man I loved 105.3. I wonder what that’s going to be now

They had the lock out in may of studios, lost the longhorns, canceled kokefest, now this.

I don’t think EMF is involved. Many other options, VCY?

104.9 HD4 is Spanish language music. Didn't hear any branding in between songs

I’m hearing Regional Mexican interspersed with more Contemporary sounding music in Spanish. Not at all familiar with the genres: signal was stronger earlier here in Canyon Lake. That may just be the atmospheric conditions.

Listened to The Horn online this morning, and they are heavily promoting their streaming app. They did say that 104.9 and 105.3 will now be Spanish language programming. They also acknowledged the signal issues with 1250 and 101.9, but also said that 1260 “covers two million people.” The Horn will also revamp its lineup on August 7, and will be off the air for a few days prior to that.

I would guess the most likely Spanish operator would be Norsan Media, which also currently LMAs KZNX 1530 and translator La Raza 95.1. They have a few other Spanish-language formats in the markets they operate in including “Latina”, “Azul”, and “Flow”.

104.9 is now in Spanish, RDS still reads The Horn, HD still on, HD-3 is still Koke FM Wonder how long that would last? HD-3 is 105.3 same as 104.9.

Is it La Raza? Same as 95.1?

I've heard it is in fact Norsan leasing/acquiring the stations. If that is the case, I would expect La Raza to move to the stronger 104.9 signal and one of their other spanish formats to end up on 95.1 or 105.3. It could be they are losing or not renewing the LMA on 95.1/1530 and that will eventually be something else with another operator.

I would expect the HD-3 that feeds KOKE's translator on 98.5 to be part of the deal at least for three to five years.

UPDATE: Looks like they have mentioned 104.9 on their FB page post... Norsan’s press release is a little vague, but it sounds like the La Raza simulcast on 104.9 is only temporary, with a permanent format TBA.

Yea, they seems to be indicating other formats, at least 2 are coming.

“Along with our existing Austin station: La Raza 95.1 K236AY-FM/1530 KZNX-AM, these additional frequencies will allow us to serve and embrace the vast and ever-growing multicultural radio audience in Austin.” said Norberto Sanchez, Norsan Media’s CEO.

The format of the station has yet to be released, and the company’s current station: La Raza 95.1 FM/1530 AM will continue to air in Austin. ”
