Will kearth play Margaritaville in honor of jimmy Buffett death?

KRTH is sticking with its Totally 80s special all weekend. However, KKGO played Come Monday Saturday afternoon.

Most classic hits stations played Margaritaville at some point yesterday. WCBS-FM played both Come Monday and Margaritaville.

With the news today of Steve Harwell’s death at the age of 56, I believe we will also hear some more Smashmouth, especially considering K-EARTH has been playing more 90’s lately.

Not this weekend however, since they're doing a Totally 80s special.

The heck is going on here? First Jimmy Buffett, then Steve Harwell, and now I read Gary Wright has passed away.

Follow-up: With the 80s weekend now over, KRTH played Smash Mouth this morning:

I asked WUMB Boston about Buffett. Their response was that a '60s/'70s nostalgia show they run on Saturday mornings would be dedicated to his life and music. I checked their latest playlist and he's still absent, so I guess that's all the listeners will get. Meanwhile, Zach Bryan's new album is getting six or seven tracks played every day.

Death rate increases with age. it's not exactly a new phenomenon.
Yes, but sadly musicians tend to burn out sooner. George Harrison was only 58 when he died. He did a hell of a lot in those years. Unfortunately, politicians seem to shamble on forever. The World would be better off if the artists could stick around longer...🌎

He didn't die from burnout. He died from lung cancer. Cancer kills people at all ages.
Yes, I'm aware of that. That wasn't the point. Many musicians live a hard life with the grind of touring. Many don't have Health insurance. On the flip side, politicians get the Rolls Royce Health Care plan. My comment was just an observation that many musicians live shorter lives...

Willie Nelson just turned 90. He continues to tour and smoke pot. He releases a new album every year, and hasn't slowed down a bit.

Ringo Starr is 83. He continues to tour and release new music. I could go on.

Have you seen Phil Collins lately? He's not well. I could go on with an extremely long list of musicians who didn't make it to 60.

I said MANY(not all) live shorter lives which you obviously missed...

I'm in the Palm Springs market, one of the oldest markets in terms of average age. And the retirees here are fairly well off (as is a requirement to retire adequately in California). So about every week we have a show with an artist or group of artists that had hits in the 60's and 70's.

We have 6 nights and 8 shows for Barry Manilow's traditional Christmas event. We had Frankie Vallie recently and have Paul Anka and most of his contemporaries, all of whom are in their later 70's and 80's.

I saw Ringo just before the pandemic. His show is a great deal of fun and he gets some incredible guests on stage with him. If you know the songs, it does not matter how old the artists are... it's really fun to see them.

I was on a brief visit to Cleveland when the Beatles made their first tour visit there... "WIXY, the station that brought the Beatles to Cleveland"... and I somehow got "media" passes. They were young, and so was I. It was fun... but seeing recently Ringo and McCartney was even more fun because they brought back such a slew of memories. And neither acted like they were around 80... they acted like they were having fun.
