Guess that announcement during the game the other day was a mistake. Looks like Scripps has decided to air tonight's Coyotes game on just 15.2. I wonder if they upgraded Cox Channel 95 to HD yet. Guess they couldn't work out something to postpone CW programming. They just made an announcement during the game that CW61 is where to find the Coyotes games this season. Now the question is was that announcement a mistake or has Scripps worked out something with Nexstar to postpone CW programming as most Coyotes games will be at 7 PM after this week.
Well, to be fair, there's nothing else to 15.2 beyond running Antenna TV off the bird. The rep tries to blame it on technology, but that's a farce. The key is that they won't carry it. Whether it's a choice not to carry secondary subchannels at all (15.1 is also a subchannel - so he's misleading there as well) or that DirecTV doesn't believe that carrying channel 15.2 is financially beneficial enough for them (which is likely), it's still a choice on their part, and one that they have every right to make.
And in Phoenix, the Arizona Coyotes' ratings have increased a whopping 900% of from their RSN distribution last year. The equation is simple. More audience reach generates higher ratings to deliver Scripps significant new revenue right now, primarily through incremental and meaningful core advertising revenue growth and higher distribution revenue for the independent stations on which they air.
Look like you are right. But it may be sooner than that. KASW has changed the logo on its TV listings page from CW61 to Arizona 61 with the same logo as Golden Knights station KMCC Vegas 34 and Golden Knights/Arizona Coyotes station KUPX Utah 16. Could be a sign of KASW going independent with the Coyotes in the New Year. Some of the Coyotes' increase can also be attributed to playing in a 5,000 seat arena that most fans cannot afford a ticket to. We'll see what happens when (if?) the Coyotes stay in Phoenix and get an NHL-size arena to play in, but I'm still loving seeing local professional sports back on the broadcast airwaves.
We'll also see what happens next year. KASW's affiliation agreement with The CW expires in August. Some here have already predicted that Scripps will do here what they did with KMCC in Las Vegas: take the station independent and broadcast sports there on the primary subchannel, giving them must-carry rights if they can't do a retransmission agreement with the cable & satellite companies. I could see that happening.

That domain name was registered one day before WXYZ’s website prematurely posted the press release announcing WMYD as Detroit’s new CW affiliate … 🤔Scripps has also recently registered the website arizona61.com on November 2nd most likely as the new website for the rebranded station similar to vegas34.com and utah16.com
