‘Big Bang Theory’ star Kate Micucci reveals she was diagnosed with lung cancer

Apparently one can end up with lung cancer without having a history of smoking. I can see how one can end up with lung cancer without smoking and one of them is being exposed to second hand smoke.

“It’s really weird, because I’ve never smoked a cigarette in my life. So, you know, it was a surprise. But also I guess, it happens and the greatest news is they caught it early, they got it out, I’m all good.”

Research shows lung cancer diagnoses have risen among women in recent years, even though many of those women never smoked, according to research. Exposure to secondhand smoke, pollution, family history and other factors can contribute to lung cancer diagnosis, the American Cancer Society states.

Micucci explained that something unusual showed up in her bloodwork, which led to further testing and eventually her cancer diagnosis.

“I had one thing in my bloodwork that came back really high,” she said. “So I went to a preventative doc who did a few scans. He scanned my heart and that’s where the spot in my lung was noticed.”

I'm sorry to hear about Ms. Micucci's diagnosis, and wish only the best for her.

What I don't understand, which has nothing to do with her herself, is why the media identifies her primarily with The Big Bang Theory? She had a bit part as a minor recurring character in just a handful of episodes of a show that lasted for 11 seasons. Micucci has done many more things in her career. (Just to name one, she was one of the title characters in Garfunkel and Oates, which I think ran on HBO once upon a time.) So why fixate on this bit role on BBT?

The first show I think of is "Raising Hope", which was about a family taking care of a baby and usually senile old woman played very well by Cloris Leachman. Kate's character ran the day care.
