It's all in the headline, and they wonder why their ratings are half of what they used to be lol
It's one of the reasons I stopped listening to a morning show here that I really used to enjoy. It got to be to the point where if I got into my car and started my commute at the start of one of their long commercial breaks, that would take up a huge chunk of my commute time. I've never been one to reach for another preset on my radio when a break happens to come up (primarily because I understand those are required to pay the bills and keep the station on the air), but after about 3 consecutive minutes of spots, that's when I move on.10 1/2 minute long commercial breaks definitely don't help
And WHO are the other half still listening after all that? And this is a CHR station? In the Spotify age? Good gravy! It's all in the headline, and they wonder why their ratings are half of what they used to be lol
CHR is getting fewer listeners everywhere, and it's not because of the commercials. It's because of the music.
"We asked you, our fans, to help us understand what would make Alt a better station. You told us the No. 1 issue was too many commercials that seem to go on forever," Senior VP of Programming Mike Kaplan wrote on the station web site. "So, to meet your expectations, we created the 2 Minute Promise -- we're giving you fewer commercials overall and in shorter segments."
No, it's because of the commercials. Who wants to be subjected to that kind of assault?
Literally anyone you ask will tell you radio sucks because there are too many commercials
Unfortunately it was a promise they couldn't keep. Three years later, the wait to get back to the music increased from two minutes to infinite, when they became a simulcast of all-news 1010 WINS.
They don't have to play 21 minutes to pay everyone, and make a profit.
Perhaps they CAN'T sell 21 minutes of commercials an hour. Unless you're actually privy to their financial ledger, you have no way of knowing just how profitable they really are.I don't know lol I did however point to a company that only has one station out of four pulling in any kind of ratings. So, 75 percent of the cluster gets lower end 1 point ratings, with 25 percent billing between mid 5's and mid 6's that has figured out a way to not throw 21 minutes of commercials at you on any of their stations, and still, most likely, I'm not literally hanging out in the company to for sure know, make a profit.
