Charlotte-Gastonia-Rock Hill Radio Ratings: January 2024

I was surprised by this comment at first, but then I took a look at K104.7's playlist and must agree regarding the "no other true AC" comment!

K104.7's music log is indicative of a classic hits format to me. Perhaps they still call themselves "AC" for reporting or sales purposes, but that is absolutely a classic hits-style playlist. When did they pivot music-wise?
Boy....2 years ago? Maybe longer? They were pretty heavy on the 80's for AC standards, and heavier sounding titles, too...but I want to say 18 months ago, they doubled down on that sound.

WKQC was always a gold leaning AC. The transition to the current format started around 2019 when WLKO started kicking WKQC's ass. WKQC just copied WLKO's format (per programming and sales people at Beasley). Jack Daniel took over as PD in 2021, and that's when they dropped all the currents and went heavy 80s. Jack Daniel is in his 70s and has primarily programmed rock based formats. Ironically, he was WLKO's first PD when it launched in 2012.

I had no idea The Lake had been around that long.
Too long! If you like a jockless tired presentation this is a great example...boring!

What happened to the SHOW in the radio business? How about a presentation by people who are excited and involved in the music they play?

The Lake website is a waste too. Nothing useful there, nothing that really promøtes the staton. Cookie cutter, it could be in Denver or Cincinnati.

Mix 107.9 and K-104.7 have better web content, even though I believe the pink and blue used on the Mix website tells me their emphasis is on women.

I meant music.

In my case it's 63 Big WAYS, which exists only because the owner apparently likes the music and has a rock-leaning classic hits station whose ratings are never shown but it was always moderately successful.

Pretty balanced now. Both hip-hop and (Spanish) reggaetón lean male in most markets. As does Alt Rock, Classic Rock and other rock derivatives.
