SBS Buys KROI for $7.5 million

Not the reason but the Face of the station still has a none compete and its pointless to launch without having that element.
The first post on this board dealing with Brindis’ departure from KLTN was on December 14, 2023. Can we assume a one year non-compete went into effect then? That date falls in a Saturday this year, so maybe a launch on the following Monday 12/16? Might SBS do some sort of “10,000 songs” promotion between an 11/27 closing/flip and the Brindis debut?

What is being neglected is that the Brindis show had been declining considerably in ratings over a period of over a year. We have seen personality based shows in Latin radio do rapid burn-outs often before: El Cucuy, Humberto Luna, Piolín, Luis Jiménez, El Pistolero are several major market examples.

not sure it was the ''SHOW'' but more the changes around the show. I would bet my 20+ years in the industry that Raul will be back on top Before April!

Brindis would at least bring a lot of attention to the new format on 92.1. He doesn’t have to be in any long term plans; SBS could always toss him once he is no longer useful in moving listeners from the competition. Hey, next stop after 92.1…..97.5? 🤣

Two weeks until the latest KROI closing date, as stated in the current version of the APA.

Keeping an eye on FCC filings for the following:

Confirmation of Consummation notification, or…

Yet another amendment to the APA pushing the closing into 2025

Call letter change request (anybody’s guess on this happening)

Praise continues on 92.1. Listened to their local midday show for a bit yesterday; nothing mentioned about impending change.

Now just one week away from the (supposed) closing of the SBS purchase of KROI.

Listened to KROI for a while today during their local midday show. No mention of the impending demise of the Praise format on 92.1. Commercial load has diminished to virtually nothing.

No sign of any amended APA filing. Also no call letter change request yet, if that is going to happen.

New format for Thanksgiving?

When is Sbs supposed to close on 92.1? IS it the 27th of this month?
The last FCC filing (attached) asking for an extension set the closing date to on or before the 27th.

exciting times! We will finally see this close in the next 5 days!
No sign of any further APA amendment filings this past week, so it seems this may actually happen…finally.

Nothing yet on the SBS corporate website about a launch in Houston.

Seems the “La Ley” branding would be most likely for 92.1. Been searching for a possible website using both La Ley and 92.1 in the URL, but nothing pops up, unless for another unrelated station. For example “LaLey921.com” is already taken by WAFZ in the Fort Meyers market.

Also no call change request filing, so the KROI call may very well stay, unless SBS quietly makes a change after closing.

Keep an ear out for an HD-2 to appear on 92.1, which could host the “La Privada” format.

The closing may also start the ball rolling on the rumored change on 97.5, now that the potential programmers will know what the new market composition is.

Has everyone forgotten that there was an instagram page open under the name RITMO 921.

An old X account now has a logo too as does an old Youtube account with the same name and same logo. Also, Ritmo921.com was registered in August.
I doubt they would resuscitate the logo of a failed station in Puerto Rico, even if said failure was due to advertisers not wanting to cater to Dominicans.

Ritmo is a current SBS brand in Miami. I am not familiar with its history of use in PR.

Regardless I am just posting facts. No idea for sure if this is a head fake, and old plan that has since changed (the X/Twitter account is over a year old, although i think the logo being added is recent), or a competitor sowing confusion.

For what it is worth, the X account lists a homepage link of "https://www.lamusica.com/en/stations/kroi". So if it is a fake, it is at least one that was detailed enough to use SBS's url scheme.

I do think this logo looks possibly legitimate, despite being pretty different from Miami.

It was used on SBS-owned WRXD 96.5 in Fajardo/San Juan from January 2010 to October 2014, when the station ran a Dominican Tropical format.

The logo was added last year.

It's the same logo as the one formerly used on WRXD, the only difference is the fact that the (alleged) KROI variant is monotone.
