1090 XEPRS Has Gone Back to Oldies Plus Wolfman - L.A. Daily News

Wasn't XEPRS airing Spanish-language Catholic programming for a short time? That was after The Mighter 1090 Sports Radio ended.

Wolfman Jack died in 1995, so those tapes are 30 years old or more. I remember when Wolfman Jack's tapes ran overnight on 660 WNBC in NYC.
Most of the people who were fans of Wolfman Jack in the late 1960s and 1970s (his heyday) are well into their 70s now. If there is any time for XEPRS to be running those old Wolfman Jack tapes one last time for old time's sake, it is now. Because many of them won't be here in ten years.

And neither will XEPRS.

Speaking of the Wolfman, apparently his son is doing some work with the old tapes:

Don't tell me, they're going to AI his voice, right?

I mean, I know that's coming if they're planning a future for his show

The article says they’re using AI to produce and catalog transcripts, making existing Wolfman audio quicker and easier to locate and re-use. Nothing in there about using it for his voice, though the technology exists.

What we know:

Paskin says he's done a deal to buy an FM signal for $4 million in the Los Angeles Metro.

He says his deal with XEPRS ends February 27, but he won't be on the L.A. FM until June.

Nothing filed with the FCC.

This has the hint of vaporware...an announcement that "the deal couldn't come together" a few months down the road.
It's Fri Feb 28 and 1090's still crankin' out the Wolfman

It's gotta be a translator and/or a farfetched definition of the L.A. "metro".
A scientific wild-a guess- The whole purchase story citing amount and all, tests credibility, but maybe Meruelo or even Audacy is looking to unload something in L.A. Station values are dropping. 93.5 or 106.7??

If this hypothetical becomes true, it would be a nice revival of a format somewhat near to the former KYMS that aired on that signal in the early 1970s. 106.3 FM in Santa Ana presently airs Vietnamese language music and entertainment programming. Were KALI-FM to be sold to Marc Paskin it would also benefit KVNR Santa Ana 1480 AM (the former longtime KWIZ), which is a Vietnamese format competitor.

Isnt KALI current runnign some brokered asian stuff, mainly vietnamese? Theyve been there awhile i think, so i have to imagine is making money

Does anyone know if there are any updates on the supposed new FM oldies station. I keep looking but cant find anything other that it is supposed to happen next month

Paskin probably has been met with slammed doors in his face to any station owner he has approached about this. Even with the money he claims to be throwing at it, they probably look at what he did in San Diego and figure it wouldn't be a stable situation.

I have more chance of someone wanting to run my format in L.A. than he does in getting this pipe dream of his on the air.

Your format appeals to a sales demographic. The Wolfie format does not attract listeners that any time buyer of significance in LA would want to reach.
