Stephen A. Smith Launching New Show on Mad Dog Sports Radio

Starting in September, Smith will host a new daily sports talk show, which will air on Mad Dog Sports Radio (channel 82), in which he will offer his takes on the biggest sports headlines. He will also create a “weekly current events, pop culture and social commentary-focused show,” which will air on a non-sports SiriusXM channel to be announced at a later date.

Smith’s Mad Dog Sports Radio show will debut Sept. 2. Smith’s current events and pop culture show will debut in September on a date to be announced.

Because for some reason the world didn't need more Stephen A. Smith, he will be launching new shows on Sirius XM. One being a sports show on Mad Dog from 1pm - 3pm and another to be about weekly current events.

This will knock out Beadle and Decker who currently host from 12 - 3pm on the channel.

I'm more shocked that this man will be able to do First Take, 2 Sirius shows, his own podcast, and whatever appearance on the political stations.

I have to believe ESPN only authorized this because they are scaling back their radio product. Otherwise, I'd have to think he's be under ESPN branding.

He certainly has a following.

Got to wonder how many subscribers are listening to any one of SXM's multitude of sports channels. This is a service that has individual channels devoted exclusively to MLB, NFL, NBA, NHL, NASCAR and PGA, the SEC, ACC and Big 10, as well as combat sports (boxing, MMA and the non-sport of wrestling) and domestic and international soccer. Add to those the fantasy sports and sports betting channels, along with the ESPN and Fox sports channels. Sheesh, what kind of following could Donald Duck Russo's vanity channel have?

I wonder how sirius can even afford this.
