Charlotte Ratings July 2025 - Big Jump For The Fox, Big Drop For Mix

Panthers football hasn't officially started yet, and 99.7 The Fox gains 1.2 points to move up to 7th place. Maybe they'll return to the Top 5 later this year.

Meanwhile, Mix 107.9 falls to a 14th place tie with sister WFNZ, dropping 1.4 points. Yikes!

And 96.1 listeners must be reading this board, because they're up 0.5 points. Still trailing Kiss, but still...

Classical 89.9 WDAV from Davidson College is #18.

How did it get to #1 a few years ago? Was it December 2015? I remember it was just before Christmas so I imagine the station was playing a lot of classical Christmas music.

Is this one of the rare times that k104.7 leads outside of Christmas season. Also Power 98 used to be a dominant station in this market but now they have dropped to 10th. Streaming by the youth has taken a toll on them.

RFX/END have a new PD. I’m sure that has something to do with it. The last guy got record ratings for END, but it was at the expense of RFX which struggled.

KQC was #1 consistently a few years ago once Jack Daniel started programming it. He added SOC back in 2022 after John Reynolds really screwed it up. Their ratings recovered, but KQC started to struggle with him pulling double duty. Not sure who is programming SOC these days.

PEG hasn’t been #1 in the market consistently since the CBS Radio days. They still do well in the demos, and were #1 for several months earlier this year. Younger leaning stations are struggling everywhere though. Not just a Charlotte thing.

It hit #1 in January 2022. And it had a massive Time Spent Listening figure that month, while finishing 17th in cume listeners. Lose a few of those listeners and the large shares can quickly evaporate. It's a good example of why no one should put too much emphasis on one single month. There are wobbles and flukes that you can only see once you look at the long view over many months.

I've never seen the numbers that K104.7 has right now, outside of Christmas. Kudos to them. Their website is god-awful. Looks like more of a news site which is a shame. I can't track what songs they are playing. But do they really two on-air personalities at the station?

As for Hits 96.1 looks like they are back to playing more current CHR and not the throwbacks. Who knows but I feel like they are definitely having identity issues.

Just down 85 S, in Atlanta, a true AC station would be a nice touch. Demographics in Charlotte and Atlanta that much different? No?!

If I remember correctly, they piqued in the high 7s or low 8s before.

Here is KQC’s recently played songs: https://k1047.com/stream/wkqcfm/

Look at WBT and WFAE's cume. Both are rather low. As I know it and David Eduardo understands this stuff better than I do but I believe cume is total listeners?

Okay guys what in your opinion is AC? I honestly don't know. Please give some song and artist examples.

Things have changed so much, I don't believe AC is anything like it was a few years ago. That's true of just about any format that isn't stagnant.
It’s basically top 40 targeting women 25-54. KQC doesn’t play anything contemporary (new), so it wouldn’t be adult contemporary. They’re listed as Classic Hits everywhere now, and that’s how sales markets it, so I’m not sure where anybody is getting AC from.

Cume for a station is the total number of people who listened enough to qualify for a single quarter hour credit during the survey period. Of course, to get a "quarter hour" credit the person's PPM must detect during just three separate minutes in that 15-minute space.

In basic terms you take the average amount of listening of all the cume listeners and get Average Quarter Hour Persons. Using math, AQH Persons can be converted to share and rating. AQH, share and cume are all the same number, just as 1/2, 2/4 and 4/8 are all the same.

So, year, Mike, cume is total listeners!

SOC is #1 in cume. I don't remember the last time that was the case. KQC is only 800 people behind LKO also.
For those wondering what the heck you and I are talking about...

A station can get the same rating with high cume and low TSL or High TSL and low cume or average numbers in both.

"Ratings" (share, AQH Persons, rating) are based on a combination of how many and how long.

Who said they were AC?
That site I go to for 12+ ratings which I'm not allowed to mention and the sources used by Wikipedia.

Jack Daniel himself said, "We're kind of an adult contemporary/classic hits station. Our station is not trying to make hits, we're just playing the hits."

There's no source for the dramatic change that took place a few years ago when the station definitely made a change. So Wikipedia has to say AC.
