WCCB Charlotte

At the end of the Sunday night newscast they mentioned the new 9pm program and the new studio. But no mention of losing the CW. But increasing local news at 9:00 and adding SVU at 8:00 seems to fill the 2 hour gap. So not really a major loss, except maybe some CW sports broadcasts. But the new studio looks very nice and the Edge is back with the old hosts and Brotha Fred. I think they will survive just fine.
Time will tell for them as both Hulu and YouTube TV removed them from their lineup yesterday. They are pushing the cord cutters to download their app or find them on OTA.

CW7 now ARC-WMI still did promos when Wild Cards was about to dubuted in Jan 24 when The CW moved from Sinclair WWMT DT2 to WOTV DT2, on Jan, 1, 2024.
Wild cards is one of my favorite shows, even though it’s a copycat of another show that I can’t think of the name right now. Kind of cool to see Martin Sheen in a few episodes last season.

I haven't read it yet but there is a Charlotte Observer article about Brotha Fred which takes up nearly the entire page.

I checked the listings and the station is doing Sunday movies again. WMYT has them some weeks but one week there appears to be CW programming on Sunday afternoon instead.

I will check the Observer online. Unfortunately the Charlotte Observer is no longer distributed to Greenville-Spartanburg or areas past Gastonia or Shelby. Not available anymore in Hendersonville or Asheville either.

It would be nice if they would return Brotha Fred to 96.1. Especially if he still is with iHeart.

Who approved the logo and graphics? I can’t tell if it’s WCCB, WOOB, WCOB. It looks dumb as hell with Charlotte in the middle. I watched it the first night, and they had the gold logo with a gold background, and you couldn’t make out what it said. The color scheme is ugly. They need some quality control.

If they’re going to run a prime time newscast, they need to hire some more reporters. They had 2 stories at the top of the hour, and the rest of the broadcast was national stories and filler content. Not going to be competitive that way.

I wish they would bring back Mark Mathis. He was the only reason I watched WCCB’s news growing up.

I was glad to see Kaitlin Wright back. I figured she was gone permanently.

Well, she's pretty. She was pregnant but didn't take that much time off, until recently.

And she is a meteorologist.
Looks like she started in 2020. I haven't really watched WCCB since they lost the Fox affiliation in 2013. I usually stick with Channel 9 now.

The only reason I watched it back in the day was for the coked out weather man

Mark Mathis reminds me of WOTV weather met in the early 2000s excited about the weather I remember the WKFR morrning show did a promo when thunderstorms were in the area may have been a tornado warning in May of 2001 EAS woke me up when Charter Spectrum when the warning was issued. The DJ's were saying that the met was yelling to get down to the lowest place in the home and WOTV also had promos of how excited he was as well about wearing a coat as it was cold outside. The weather met left in late 2002 for Cleveland, can't think of his name thou.

Jeff Tanchak is absolutely sedate compared to Mark Mathis, who appears to be channelling Sam Kinison.

I started watching WCCB for weather because it seemed they would tell us the low and high for the day when WCNC wouldn't. I don't remember how I decided on that station. They seem to do a better job, though I switched to WBTV at 6.

I’m a hard news person. Cut the crap and get to the point. That’s why I like Channel 9. They’re stone faced teleprompter readers who don’t waste my time.

I don’t care about the anchor’s opinion, cute dog or feel good stories, news from halfway across the country that has no relevance to Charlotte or reporters trying to create the news like WBTV loves to do. Most of the stations are a joke now.

Mark Mathis was more of an exception for me. I would still watch WSOC for the news and weather.

My #1 go to Channel for News and Weather is WBTV 3, since I like how Gray runs things with First Alert Weather, Safety First, QC Life and The Point After. I think WCCB is the 2nd best, Channel 9 3rd and QC News and WCNC outside the top 3.

Constant crime stories made me quit watching. And their current meteorologist at 6 and 11 is a jerk.

WSOC-TV Channel 9 is the only Charlotte station with a copter. They also have the largest, most aggressive news staff.

I wonder if WBTV will eventually replace their Sky 3 helicopter. It was a big deal back in the day. I heard they finally settled the lawsuit from the crash a few years ago. It would help again give them a competitive edge which has been ceded to WSOC.
Historically WBTV was the leading legacy station and news leader. But they have been overtaken by WSOC wich now has the stronger news operation.
