105.5 The Dove in Tampa Is All-Christmas. What About Mix 100.7 WMTX?

In the past, WDUV and WMTX would compete for Christmas listeners. WDUV, owned by Cox, went all-Christmas on Nov. 6. Meanwhile, WMTX, owned by iHeart, hasn't made the move. This is odd since so many iHeart AC stations have already flipped.

Stations make the move consistently around the same time...

In 2024, WDUV went all-Christmas on November 1. WMTX followed on Friday, November 15. Based on that historical data, I think its safe to say that WMTX will do it tomorrow...

And when you say its odd that many iHeart AC's have already flipped. Keep in mind that many of the most successful of them including WLTW, KOST, WASH, KODA, and WWSW have not yet...

That's right. Nearly all the lesser iHeart stations switched on the same day. But in large markets, station management decides.

On the other hand, in most places with two all-Christmas stations, when one flips, the other does too, sometimes within an hour or two. You don't want the competition to get a head start. But in Tampa, I guess iHeart didn't want to match WDUV.

Mix 100.7 will flip to all-Christmas on Friday (11/14) at 7pm in conjunction with the kickoff of Christmas Town at Busch Gardens. They’ve been promoting this since WDUV’s switch about a week ago.

Would love it if one of them said "Hey, we're dumping the same 35 songs Christmas format early due to threats against management from Grinch's and will go back to our regular 55 song rotation of the same songs we've played since Edison invented the phonograph."
