In the ‘80s, Orlando FMs came in many nights and mornings in Sarasota. It was almost dependable about 4 or 5 days per week. These days translators or move-ins have taken all the available frequencies. I never was lucky enough to hear Miami FMs there, but occasionally I’d hear West Palm Beach, the Keys, and the panhandle.

These days translators or move-ins have taken all the available frequencies. I never was lucky enough to hear Miami FMs there, but occasionally I’d hear West Palm Beach, the Keys, and the panhandle.
March and April are prime months for great FM tropo in Florida, especially in the morning.
Some of my videos from when I lived there.
And this was some fantastic tropo from an afternoon in early June one year which was unusual for that time of day.
It wasn't E Skip because the signal was very steady.

FM DXing from Tampa - KHMX Houston, Tx 789 miles
An unusual condition called tropospheric ducting was bringing in FM stations from all the way across the Gulf.

Yes!! I remembere listening to WFLZ and most Class Cs from Tampa market (WMTX, WWRM WPOI to name a few) from Clearwater to Daytona Beach back in the day before translators, low power FMs and IBOC popping up. Were it not because of this, I would think they would still come through like they used to
Same thing with WFLC 97.3 out of Miami. I was able to get it near Cocoa going south on I-95. Google maps shows a distance about 160 miles. I think this is possible because it's far away from WPCV and there aren't any IBOC on 97.3.
I'm talking about being in Sarasota in 1980, before 80-90, before IBOC, and before the glut of translators
