Central Jersey Local radio stations

What station sounds the most local to you? NYC radio stations or Philly stations are not a part of this discussion so refrain from mentioning any of them. Local only.

Are there any left?! I guess WVLT, but their days are numbered. Equity's Atlantic City cluster could have been on the list, but iHeart bought them and, last I heard, they turned them into robots. LOL. I guess that leaves New Jersey 101.5? I can't even really say they sound local, since they broadcast an agenda that most people I know here in NJ disagree with. Ya stumped me. I guess college stations.

All of Equity's stations were basically all-automation except for a couple of shows. The only difference between Equity and iHeart is that iHeart pumps in out of market voicetrackers instead of just letting stations run Song-Liner-Song-Liner etc.

WOBM and NJ101.5 are Townsquare stations, and they all sound local, including Cat Country in Atlantic City.

I would say that all of the Press Communications stations are pretty local to where they are.

Even with all the cuts from Beasley around the state, WDHA still sticks to what it does.

WFMU is a non-com that at one time was a college station. and is now community owned.

I had forgotten about all the Equity automation. I couldn't even tell you how long it's been since I listened to any of those stations. I should clarify: When I said, "last I heard," I meant the last time I heard anyone mention the stations. I didn't mean "last time I heard the stations."

B 98.5 is local and so is 94.5 PST.
Andy Ahne on PST isnt local, shes out of state... and Matt Ryan isnt either, but hes in the state.. just not at PST

This brings back memories of driving on Rt. 31 in Warren County near Washington, NJ past 1580 WCRV, in a little shack in a field, and seeing the disk jockey working on the air live through the picture window. WCRV and live local stations are gone now…

I always was under the impression that ZXL had local on air personnel for much of the day. I know The Buzz was basically a hip hop jukebox & AYV had VT personalities outside of the morning show for the most part.

One of their stations had a studio on an amusement pier in Wildwood.

Nearly 40 years ago when I lived in Ewing Township, just outside of Trenton, I was surprised at the quality of the stations on the dial, despite being sandwiched between NYC and Philadelphia. 97.5 WPST was a Top 40 powerhouse with a lot of street presence, and 101.5 WKXW was called "Jersey 101.5," and I remember seeing folks wearing Jersey 101.5 t-shirts around town. There was also a really good college station at 91.3 FM, WTSR. Doing a little research, I'm happy to see that all stations are still around these days, although it appears WPST has moved down the dial to 94.5.

PST moved in 2005.

STOP! That was over 20 years ago?! It seems like it was much more recent! Then again, I have a vague memory of printing a news story about it and reading it later in my parents' kitchen. Nowadays, I'd simply save the story to read later on my phone. And my parents' house was sold in 2008! How can I be this old?

I feel old too. I was in high school in 2005. I wish life would slow down. 🐌

Hy and Sam launched it and were on air jocks with an Englishman Mike Staves they were still unlistenable with 50kw at their studios with the small 5 bay then when they moved to the tv tower they had a contest who was the furthest listener and I believe Mike Landry had the winner somewhere in Maryland…

I believe Mike Landry was the last live host on Great Gold 1260 WBUD before it was sold in the middle to late 2000’s. That was a very local station with an extremely dedicated listener base for decades.

If I remember correctly they laid off their on air talent around 2005 but continued to play automated music until the sale around 2007-2008.

When they ditched Passport radio late 70s and went more top 40 PST was a powerhouse from NYC to Wilmington, Whole coast and inland to Reading using a 10 bay 50kw from 470' with their Xmtr in downtown Trenton which was very odd for a FM Flamethrower to be in the heart of a city (INCLUDED PHOTO FROM THE 80S). They were the only other local signal for top 40 whereas WIFI had a lousy signal and compressed stereo separation...
