WZGV 730

While we debate the future of 1110 AM a lesser known station will shut down. I can’t say that I am surprised. They never seemed to be a serious competitor to WFNZ. Their last gasp switch to sports gambling never worked out. The shows leaned very heavily into the technical jargons of sports gambling which likely shut out the casual sports listener. It’s too bad that this will leave Charlotte without a Braves play by play affiliate.

I'd guess with the shutdown of the 97.5 translator with 730 AM, would help expedite move of 97.3 WKBC to their new tower closer to CLT.
Translators have not pertection from A B or C FMs. WKBC could have taken 97.5 if the engineering studies said it would allow a bigger signal.

IIRC WXGO's translator channel 100.9 is on the next FCC auction

It appears that 930 AM is on its way out too.
I noticed that, too. If 730 is broadcasting from 930's tower, and received notification that the land under the tower was being sold, 930's days are apparently numbered. So WBT, WAYS and WSOC (yes, I'm living in the past) will join WGIV at that big antenna farm in the sky.

Ignoring the 97.5 translator a major short space with 97.5 Columbia would not happen. We already know the 104.7 grandfathered in situation in Charlotte.
I was just making a point that translators have no clout with the FCC. That why I brought up the Madison Indiana situation.. I believe translators aren't even mentioned on FCC formal filings for Class A,B, or C construction permits.

Hmm, hadn't thought-a-that. Let me get this straight here. BBN owns the land the tower is on and they're selling it, right? Last time I heard them, was a little over three years ago, while in Brown Summit, at the beginning of a Gardner Webb game. Does GWU have any other affiliates?
