Kars4Kids is back in the news with a CA advertising ban

I heard a K4K ad on the over the air feed on KNX in Los Angeles this afternoon. If they were banned in CA it hasn't made the full rounds yet.

Kars4Kids ads are now banned in the state until there’s “an express, audible disclosure” of the charity’s religious affiliation, the region of where the money goes and a more accurate age range of the recipients. The organization also can’t use young kids in its ads anymore. (You may still hear the jingle for a few weeks, though, as the court gave Kars4Kids a 30-day window to get its noncompliant advertisement off California airwaves.)
 
Actually, this Kars4Kids story has received a lot of regional and national coverage. It popped up repeatedly over the weekend, including on WINS which ran it as a news item despite the fact that the station airs the spots a lot and benefits from the ad revenue. NBC Nightly News also reported on it tonight (Monday 5/18).

K4K has been a bottom feeder, advertising-wise. They buy unsold radio network inventory at distress-sale prices. So if you're KNX or WINS, those ads probably are part of your network commitment.
 
Wow, they fundraised millions from Canadians and sent all the money back to the U.S. and Israel? Not surprising from this bunch, but Canadians should have every right to be outraged.
I didn't know they existed in the UK either, but what do you know, they do:


Same thing, with a registered address at a random serviced office location presumably with no physical presence, and a very vague website with no reference to the UK. I've never heard or seen an ad for it in the UK, so I can't imagine many people have donated their kar.

We are not a country with personal wealth at the level of the United States for the most part (I make $47,000 which is about the average wage), so it annoys me a bit when a charity funnels funds from this country to the U.S.
 
Even worse than those ads are legal IDs read by kids. KCUR's are annoying. It makes the station sound small market, in my opinion.

The thing is... I never heard those IDs unless it's in the overnight hours.

Plus, it kinda gives a more local feel to the station.
 
K4K is a sponsor on the New York Yankees radio network. They get an on-air live-read from one of the announcers at the end of an inning and the jingle played during a commercial break. Kids still singing, no disclaimers.
