Byron Allen gets the Colbert timeslot

I don't get why LateNighter includes Gutfield with the late night talk shows. There is such a huge difference in potential audience between 10PM and 11:30. People start turning off TVs at 9:30. Even major sporting events can see a drop in audience after 10PM. The Gutfield show also has a much better lead in with Sean Hannity. He is their biggest star. The 11:30 shows follow late local news. To say Gutfield is competitive with late night given the time he airs and the lead in he has is incorrect. They are not the same thing.

I also can see certain media figures (and certain posters) spinning a narrative in July and August that the network shows are down. Jimmy Kimmel is off until after Labor Day, with reruns followed by a rotation of guest hosts after the July 4th holiday won't be a true judge of ratings. Plus Jimmy Fallon, Seth Meyers (and the Daily Show) will likely have more dark weeks in July and August than is typical of the rest of the year, not to mention shifting viewing habits for the summer.

But none of those facts will get in the way of a spun look at the ratings when these months come out.

And one other point that needs to be made: anyone who has spent time visiting elderly parents (or other seniors) has seen them tune to Fox, MS-Now, CNN or other bloviator, and then use it as their sonic Sominex, with no one but the cat awake to watch the flickering pictures or listen to the propaganda and ad spots. Hours and hours spent asleep in front of the TV. That's a big chunk of their audience in places like Florida.

Impressive win for Gutfeld!

Allen's show seems to be finding its balance.
Gutfeld can't really be compared with the other shows, since it airs in prime time at 10 PM ET/7 PM PT. The broadcast programs, in contrast, air at 11:35 PM ET/10:35 PM CT. Needless to say, available audiences are much higher when Gutfeld airs.

As for Allen's show, it appears that "balance" is going to be well south of a million viewers.
