‘ CBS 60 Minutes’ publicly releases transcripts of interview to the FCC

It's funny how in theory, the left and the right used to somewhat agree on the threat of oligarchy. And yet, Trump walks them right thru the front door to much applause from the same people who back then, thought Bezos, Zuckerberg, and back then even Elon were "big tech" and not to be trusted.

It's almost like political labels aren't as meaningful or clear as people like to pretend and can even actually shift.

CBS has settled its lawsuit with the president:

It's for a fraction of the money sought, and doesn't include an apology.

The lawsuit was holding up the company's sale. Now that can proceed.
So a bribe.

Big corporations are not going to fight the government over these kinds of things. Advertisers don't want to get involved with political matters either.

If specific journalists want to fight the good fight, they will likely win. That's why a lot of these folks are starting their own things.

You also saw it with Tucker & Fox. They will only go so far, and then it becomes toxic to corporate goals.

It's disingenuous to hide the names of the responsible individuals behind the generic moniker of "big corporations." Corporations aren't people, they don't make autonomous decisions without input from the leader, despite what some may say.

In this case, the person driving this decision is Shari Redstone. She wants her half-billion dollar payday and she doesn't care who she has to bribe, whose careers she has to ruin, or what kind of ethical standards she has to trample to get it.

If her dad was still alive, he'd do the same thing.

But as to my comment about corporations, so far none have been willing to put their own ass on the line yet. I'd be surprised if any do.

They can all close their news departments and not hurt the bottom line. There's still money to be made from bread and circuses

This isn’t over by a long shot, I feel. There’s going to be lengthy bribery claims that come from this, just so they could get the merger passed.

The money isn't going to the president. It's going to charity. In truth, it may never go anywhere if the president doesn't build a library.

This lawsuit wasn't about money. It was about putting out a press release saying "we won." Even though they didn't.

If those who print the news can be that manipulated, it says something about them.

There wasn't any "manipulation." There was no connection between the corporate people and the news people. There was no apology.

Being part of a big company provides resources, but it makes you vulnerable. It's bad to be vulnerable when there are vultures around.
