‘NBC News Daily’ Crashes In Broadcast Debut

The ratings are out and it’s ugly:

The numbers are very embarrassing, yes, but this will probably still be more profitable to NBC, which is the bottom line. This is the new reality. NBC already had this show on their streaming channel so why not get a 2 for 1 and broadcast it on their flagship network. No extra cost to them and in the long run, more profitable than Days. That's the bottom line. Decision makers at the networks care about profits, not ratings. News, talk and game show shows are more profitable than soaps, unfortunately. Why else would The Talk still be on!?!?!!! It is a sad reality IMHO.

How dare certain genres be more economical than others. Especially if they’re ones you take issue with?

”Decision makers” always care about profits in a for-profit business. It is quite factually their job.

Actually I agree with you 100% haha just stating some facts for those in the back still whining about it.

It just now occurred to me, there is no longer any non-news/talk daytime programming on NBC. No daytime drama, no game shows, nothing but news, talk, and those things that morph into one or the other, such as how Today becomes less and less news-oriented as the morning wears on, and finally fades into Hoda and Jenna.

Curiously, NBC News Daily airs at noon in NYC (WNBC), and they show Dateline at 1 pm. NND doesn't impress me, it's kind of like Newsy or Cheddar.

And it's not the kind of news that's "In such-and-such a place, such-and-such a thing happened today" or "Such-and-such a thing happened today, and our man/woman on the ground was where it happened to tell you more"; it's the kind of "news" that's all "We think this-and-this a thing about this issue or this politician, and if you don't agree with us, you're wrong" (on both MSNBC and FOX "News").

Don't they need ratings to have profits? Will advertisers pay for no viewers?

You would think so but maybe News is different than a talk show or game show or scripted show. I know there's been instances that News has beencanceled. WNBC in new york had News but then they replaced it with repeats of Extra and Access Hollywood but then returned News to the schedule. If anything they could move NBC News Daily up earlier to run along with the 4 parts of Today.

I wouldn’t be surprised if they were just rebrand NBC news daily to a fifth hour of Today
NND isn't nearly of the quality of Today. As I noted above, it has more of the look and feel of Newsy or Cheddar.

At least it's not like NewsNet. I'm sorry, but that's just painful to watch. They try hard, and their graphics are not bad, but at the end of the day, it's news produced at an LPTV in Cadillac, Michigan.

I thought that NBC News Daily was going to be a flop and it was karma as well even know NBC will not admit it. Yup, here to stay with the low ratings.
