“Clay & Buck” debuts today - but where in Market #13?

The much-ballyhooed replacement show for Rush Limbaugh isn’t being carried on either of Seattle’s conservative talkers. That seems a little surprising. Is it been cleared anywhere else in the market?

I'm not sure it's on in #3 Chicago, #8 Washington, #9 Philadelphia or #11 Detroit. iHeart doesn't have talk stations in any of those cities. I have not heard of any local station in those markets picking up the show.

This leads me to disbelieve iHeart's claim that Clay & Buck are cleared on 400 stations. If iHeart owns 150 of them, could there be more than 100 local owners clearing this show?

Chicago has three talk stations. WGN which carries no syndicated shows, Cumulus owned WLS and Salem owned WIND. Cumulus and Salem have their own network shows to run. Same in Washington, home to Cumulus WMAL and Salem WWRC. Same in Philly with Audacy-owned WPHT, Salem's WNTP and WKXW Trenton, which runs no syndicated shows. And in Detroit, there's only Cumulus WJR and Salem WDTK. iHeart does own an AM station in Detroit, WDFN, but that runs the Black Information Network.

I don't see how the Rush Replacement show is getting heard in too many markets with no iHeart Talk station.

Y'know, I don't think Clay & Buck are cleared in Market #5, either. The two big talk stations in Dallas are WBAP 820 and KLIF 570, both owned by Cumulus. WBAP used to run Rush but now has Westwood One's Dan Bongino in the 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. slot once held by Rush. And KLIF has other shows it runs in middays, including Dana Loesch.

Yes, iHeart has an AM talk station in Dallas, 1190 KFXR. But in middays it runs paid brokered programming, since it didn't have the rights to Rush's show. It has NOT cancelled those brokered shows. No where on KFXR's schedule is Clay Travis and Buck Sexton, unless the station hasn't updated its website.

So as far as I can tell, Clay & Buck are NOT in...

#3 Chicago
#5 Dallas
#8 Washington
#9 Philadelphia
#11 Detroit
#13 Seattle

Sure there could. But it seems like a lot of the small/independent stations who used to carry Rush have jumped ship too.

KIT-1280 Yakima replaced Rush reruns with Charlie Kirk. Not sure what KXLE-1240 is doing, I'll check.

WGST is an 8,000 watt daytimer, licensed to Hogansville, Geogia, about 70 miles southwest of Atlanta.

Clay & Buck have an Atlanta affiliate, WFOM 1230, licensed to Marietta, with an FM translator at 106.3. It's owned by the Dickey Family, who once controlled Cumulus Media. But in the sprawling Atlanta market, a 1,000 watt AM and 250 watt FM translator will not be heard in most Market #8.

In case anyone is a little confused, WGST was an Atlanta station until last year, when they changed calls and switched to All News.

Where is WSB in all of this?

Atlanta's WGST became WBIN, that city's Black Information Network station, while the Hogansville station that was previously known as WVCC changed its call sign to WGST. Like WBIN, the current WGST is owned by iHeartMedia.

Confirmed that KXLE-1240 is still on EIB and running the Clay Travis & Buck Sexton Show. And of course, KIT has Charlie Kirk at Rush's old timeslot.

Maybe Seattle's conservative radio stations determined that the local conservative audience just isn't amenable to a Clay & Buck. There are three AMs that skew conservative (KTTH, KVI, & KLFE), and the biggest one (KTTH) obviously went with Bongino, who sounds personable at the very least. KTTH obviously must have put some thought into the change.

While there will always be people out there who are interested in far right content, I'm really not sure if that would be the best idea in Seattle. And while I would assume that "Clay & Buck" are not technically considered "far" right on the political spectrum, those in the head office of some of these stations might want to refrain from branding their radio station with programming that is overly controversial. This is a strictly subjective opinion, but it seems like a lot of the programming on KTTH and KVI has somehow been "toned down" over the past decade. I recall tuning past 570 in the past, hearing Michael Savage absolutely berating his listeners for not agreeing with him. Whoever they picked up to replace his show after it ended can at least get through five minutes of the show without going on a tirade.

Also, I don't think KJR-AM cleared Clay Travis's Fox Sports show, which means he is an unknown individual to the Seattle radio dial. Meanwhile, I'm sure Dan Bongino has done interviews with Hannity and Limbaugh in the past, making him more known to the western WA conservative audience.
Listening to Clay and Buck for a few minutes today, they were arguing over words like 'Latinx' being used over 'Latino' as gender-inclusive language under President Biden. Also took a call from an airline pilot who was told that his airline was not allowed to use the words "ladies and gentlemen" in the announcements because of the gender-inclusive movement. I heard some debating between Travis and Sexton, but no yelling amongst callers or each of the hosts. Nothing like Mark Levin. I cannot stand that man. Can he ever spend one 3-hour talkfest NOT going on a tirade about something? Savage did the same thing.

I'm not sure it would have mattered - in Seattle, Travis's FSR show would have been on at 3am. Talk about an off-prime hour.
