“Dancing With The Stars” moves its mirrorball to Disney+

With OTA and cable TV on the decline, I'd expect more reality garbage, and cheaper to produce than DTWS was.
As mentioned somewhere above, Monday Night Football is returning to ABC full time for the Fall months as part of the ESPN 'Megacast' and most likely more Batchelor and Bachelorette for the other months.

If the Disney Plus experiment fails, I suspect that's it. It's not worth, at this time, trying to revive it on a second streaming platform. Now, give it a little "hiatus" of a few years, and then revive it? That I wouldn't rule out. Nostalgia even for things of a recent vintage is a helluva drug.

Fox will grab it and turn it into, 'So you think you can dance with a masked star singer'.

I know it been all doom, gloom, and nail in the coffin talk so far, but there is a real opportunity to shake things up by shifting DWTS to a pure live streaming event series. It can be a 2 hour show with more content, or a streamlined 90 minute one (can't see them keeping the traditional 2 hour show with 32 minutes of ads plugged in). Everyone being able to watch and vote at the same time, much more tie-ins with social media. I am more than curious to see how this all comes out!

I agree, but at the same time there are a lot of "ifs" built into this. If enough people subscribe to the service to make it worth it financially and otherwise (past the initial season which will most likely be used as a barometer) and if DWTS gets enough actual "stars" and well-known competitors to make people want to tune in and if enough people care enough about DWTS to watch and participate, etc.

If they get enough participation and can make it work financially, maybe it'll be back for a second season and beyond on Disney+. If no, well it did have a decent multi-year run on ABC and was an interesting experiment on Disney+...and even if it doesn't last, there will at least maybe be some lessons learned.

Disney+ is hugely successful. Getting subscribers is not a problem.

Like I said in the 2022 predictions thread…Chris Harrison and/or DWTS alum Maria Menounos should host now with Tyra Banks officially out; Banks was even called out by former winner/host Brooke Burke:

Just like American Idol when they decided to go live everywhere (including Alaska and Hawaii), allowing us to watch and vote simultaneously.

On August 3, the former ABC personality made a plea to fans to follow the show over to the streaming service when she opened up on her Facebook page about “taking a break away from social media.”
Reacting to her honest words, folks shared their own heartfelt messages about what it’ll be like for them to miss out on the new season, featuring Mirrorball champion Alfonso Ribeiro as a new co-host alongside Tyra Banks.

“I also wish you the very best. I have watched DWTS from day one. I will not be subscribing to Disney + and it is terribly disappointing and very sad. I will miss it so much and I think it will be losing many [longtime] viewers,” one person wrote. “I am so happy for you that you are on a beautiful journey, but this will be the end for many of us DWTS family,” another added. “I’ve watched since day one. It and this will be the first season I’m not watching. And it breaks my heart … Hopefully I will see lots of clips and things online. Hope you have a great season Carrie Ann!” a different fan said.

The cast of "stars" for this coming season of Dancing with the Stars has been announced. Again, this will be the first season DWTS moves from network programming on ABC stations, to streaming only on Disney+. One change is that Tyra Banks will no longer host alone - she'll be joined by Alfonso Ribeiro of "Fresh Prince of Bel-Air" and Game Show Network "fame". As has been the case in recent years, there are few real "stars" or "celebrities" in the cast, especially when compared to the $$ they once used to spend to get well-known talent on the show.

- TikTok star Charli D'Amelio with partner Mark Ballas
- Heidi D'Amelio ("The D'Amelio Show") with partner Artem Chigvintsev
- Country star Jessie James Decker with partner Alan Bersten
- TV star Trevor Donovan with partner Emma Slater
- Daniel Durant (Oscar®-winning "CODA") with partner Britt Stewart
- Teresa Giudice ("The Real Housewives of New Jersey") with partner Pasha Pashkov
- Vinny Guadagnino ("Jersey Shore") with partner Koko Iwasaki
- "Charlie's Angels" star Cheryl Ladd with partner Louis van Amstel
- Jason Lewis ("Sex and the City") with partner Peta Murgatroyd
- Drag queen superstar Shangela with partner Gleb Savchenko
- Platinum recording artist Jordin Sparks with partner Brandon Armstrong
- Gabby Windey ("The Bachelorette") with partner Val Chmerkovskiy

I know a total of two 'stars'. Cheryl and Jordin. This move to Disney+ is making sure the mirror ball rides into the sunset.

People on this board not knowing who the celebrities are isn’t exactly proof of anything about their stature.
One of the biggest names among the celebrities is Charli D'Amelio, the TikTok dancer. Her mother, Heidi D'Amelio, who is a social media personality, will be joining her in the competition.

Are they forgetting Ribeiro hosts "America's Funniest Home Videos", which is one of ABC's most popular shows? Bergeron did the same and hosted this show too.
