So the new "NBC News Daily" will be a pure news show! Let the accusations of bias begin. I suppose it's futile to expect straight-down-the-middle coverage anywhere in these times, but MSNBC is too much to stomach even for a lifelong Dem like me. Bringing that attitude to the OTA show is not likely to be a winning strategy, IMO.

'Days of Our Lives' Crew 'Shocked' to Learn Soap Is Moving to Peacock
NBC is moving the soap to streaming after nearly 60 years on the air.
There's bound to be a few hundred thousand...okay maybe a tens of thousands of little old ladies that watch exclusively OTA that are gonna be pissed that their favorite is moving to streaming.
So...any bets on how much longer these three stay in the OTA category?

The next step will be that overwhelming viewer consensus is that the stories are best told in fewer days, no pun intended, or shorter shows. More impactful or some such thing. Then it becomes what viewers really want is event storytelling, limited run stories with a singular focus (akin to the spin-off Peacock ran not that long ago). So it becomes sporadic. And then…we’ll, then it just doesn’t have any new chapters and quietly fades away.
It'd be similar to the Spanish languages soaps that have a fixed duration (100 to 200 episodes, normally).
However I think it's already too late to change. It's obvious none of the big 3 OTA networks would never dare premiering a new soap, while Telemundo, Univision and Unimas premiere lots of them every year.

Dumb move NBC. Soap viewership is high in the 55+ age group and they don't want to pay another fee to watch a soap.
They could air new episodes on Peacock and then rerun them a week later on the network in another time slot if they wanted.

First, there is no “other slot.” Second, viewership among a mostly unsellable audience is useless.
i wouldn't be surprise if General Hospital moves to Hulu (or Disney+ when Hulu and Disney+ merges since both are owned by Disney) and Bold & The Beautiful and Young And The Restless could just move to Paramount+ all while CBS and ABC gives the slots up to either their news department or the local stations themselves.
OK, time for a fact check: First of all Days usually ranks 2nd sometimes 1st place with women 18-49. They are considered to have a rather young audience. The problem is that total viewership is down to around 1.6 million, putting them in last place among the 4. In 3rd place is General Hospital with around 2.1 million viewers on average. B&B is 2nd with around 2.9 million. Y&R continues to reign in 1st place with well over 3 million.
Rising production costs, increased competition for viewers, and a slowly shrinking audience are shrinking the profit margins. BTW, when you look at ratings for all network daytime television, only Price is Right, and sometimes Let's Make A Deal have higher ratings than the soaps. Serials are becoming too expensive to produce. For right now, the 3 remaining should be able to hang on for awhile, in particular CBS.

Actually Kelly Ripa is producing a prime time reboot of "All My Children" for ABC, called "Pine Valley", with Susan Lucci reprising her role as Erica Kane. Right now, it's well into the development stage.
Days is filmed into January 2023 as of the end of July 2022. So The episodes that begin airing on Peacock in September were filmed back in March 2022. If Days is still filming, Peacock will have over 5 months of episodes banked. Now when this runs out of course who knows for sure what happens.
What are the ratings for Y&R and BB, are they still making money for CBS. Would they want to move them to P+.
Days is still on a 2 year renewal with NBC, with less than a year to go. So, obviously Peacock is going to take a wait and see approach,to see how this pans out with streaming before making any decision. There have been 3 limited run Days spin offs (Beyond Salem) that were very successful. So things may turn out alright.
Yes, I am a fan of Days, I started watching and became hooked while working at home during the pandemic. Most episodes I streamed on Peacock. Let's face it, who is able to schedule sitting down every day in front of a TV at exactly 1pm for 1 hour. This type of program is perfect for on demand streaming.
There’s a reason the term development hell exists. Many a show and movie go into that black hole never to see the light of day.

Just because entity A does something is not a precursor to two other entities doing the same thing. We have yet to see a single sustained daily “soap” be a success in streaming. The demise of the other soaps wouldn’t be surprising. Seeing them all go to streaming is highly unlikely.
Yes, I think daytime serials are going the way of the fully enclosed, climate-controlled mall, the manual shift car and, well, AM radio, LOL. Seriously though, I have many fond memories of my grandmother and I watching Love of Life, Search for Tomorrow and much of the CBS lineup in the summer and on school holidays, so it saddens me to see this era end.
