“LONE STAR 1190” CLASSIC COUNTRY DEBUTS IN DALLAS/FT. WORTH Station press releaseFOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE “LONE STAR 1190” CLASSIC COUNTRY DEBUTS IN DALLAS/FT. WORTHMoby returns in the Mornings and it’s Willie, Waylon & Johnny all the timeDALLAS - (April 26, 2006) - Finally, true country music fans can get all the Classic Country songs they want, whenever they want, on the new LONE STAR 1190, the powerful 50,000 watt KFXR AM that blasts all the way from Dallas/Fort Wt. Worth to most of North Texas. LONE STAR 1190 is Classic Country music at its best – the five decades from the late 50’s to mid 90’s, with particular emphasis on the all-time country hits from the 70’s and 80’s. LONE STAR 1190 Group Program Director and Midday Host John Roberts commented, “All the other major Dallas country stations limit their playlist to the current Hollywood style country ‘stars’ of the month plus a lot of pop rock sounding country from the last 10 to 15 years. LONE STAR 1190 is the one station listeners can turn on ANYTIME to hear their Classic Country favorites from Waylon Jennings, Merle Haggard, Alabama, George Jones, Johnny Cash, Reba McEntire, Oak Ridge Boys, Willie Nelson, Conway Twitty, and Ronnie Milsap, along with Randy Travis, Clint Black, George Strait, Vince Gill, Alan Jackson, and Garth Brooks.”“We’re live, locally produced and totally dedicated to playing all the Classic Country hits that our Dallas/Ft. Worth listeners request” General Manager Ed Wodka added. “Weekdays 5 am to 9 am it’s ‘Moby In The Morning’, a former hit in Dallas and five-time winner of Billboard’s Major Market Country Morning Show of the Year. Moby’s show includes listener calls, celebrity interviews, entertainment/lifestyle news plus topical commentary. ‘Fast Eddie Coyle’, heard for many years on K-PLEX, K-LOVE and SUNNY, hosts Afternoons live from the LONE STAR 1190 studios in downtown Dallas. Ty Wubker from the TWISTER is Production Director and can be heard Weekends. More shows and features will be added in the weeks ahead, and starting Monday LONE STAR 1190 also can be heard on the internet at www.lonestar1190.com. With the help and support of our listeners, our goal is to build up LONE STAR 1190 to be the best classic country radio station in the world.”LONE STAR 1190 is operated by First Broadcasting who also owns and operates 1160 in Dallas. Re: “LONE STAR 1190” CLASSIC COUNTRY DEBUTS IN DALLAS/FT. WORTH

I wonder how long this will last? With actual on-air personalities, this one won't fit into a back closet at the First Broadcasting offices in downtown Dallas...and seems well outside their core business of upgrading radio station signals and then operating the stations as jukeboxes until they can find a buyer.

Re: “LONE STAR 1190” CLASSIC COUNTRY DEBUTS IN DALLAS/FT. WORTH

It is still low cost. Moby syndicates to small town stations out of Georgia. You are right. They change formats a lot!

From what I've heard, their studio complex downtown is VERY nice. Since Clear Channel still owns 1190, perhaps First is going for a commission if they can "pump & dump" while they have the LMA.

If a tree falls in the woods....Seriously. Get a format and a signal.Better yet, stop trasmitting. I enjoy listening to 1200am KOAIout of San Antonio more than 1190's high-pitched squeal.Music over AM waves = SUCKS.Clarke in Lancaster

I've been to their offices in downtown a couple of times in the past -- they are in very nice space, but that space is office space, not studio space unless they done a major overhaul in the past six months or so. Because when I was there, what they had was definitely not designed for any sort of significant program origination.

Re: “LONE STAR 1190” CLASSIC COUNTRY DEBUTS IN DALLAS/FT. WORTH

I thought First Broadcasting was just in the "rip & flip" business.

Re: “LONE STAR 1190” CLASSIC COUNTRY DEBUTS IN DALLAS/FT. WORTH

Who issued this press release? Where is Fort Wt. Worth? Couldn't theydescribe Moby's show as something other than a "former hit?"

Re: “LONE STAR 1190” CLASSIC COUNTRY DEBUTS IN DALLAS/FT. WORTH

It will last until one of the FM rimshots (like 96.7) does something similar. Here in Houston, Classic Country has done very well on a rimshot (Country Legends 97.1) for the past three and a half years. This is a format that actually better suited for a rimshot because you hit all those suburban, exurban, and rural listeners that are more likely to embrace the format--such has been the case here in H-Town.

Re: “LONE STAR 1190” CLASSIC COUNTRY DEBUTS IN DALLAS/FT. WORTH

I think a few days after Lone Star 1190 did.
They didn't keep that name very long

Re: “LONE STAR 1190” CLASSIC COUNTRY DEBUTS IN DALLAS/FT. WORTH

They dumped the Lone Star name because KZPS was using it (and CC--not First Broadcasting--owned both stations. Might have created a conflict in the pre-PPM days.)

Re: “LONE STAR 1190” CLASSIC COUNTRY DEBUTS IN DALLAS/FT. WORTH

I like the idea but I'd love it on FM.

I did find humor by their including Garth Brooks in their CLASSIC lineup, after just saying "“All the other major Dallas country stations limit their playlist to the current Hollywood style country ‘stars’ of the month plus a lot of pop rock sounding country from the last 10 to 15 years."

I like Garth, but most of today's country-pop gravitation towards primarily female teenagers was of his doing. Even Gene Simmons said Garth Brooks concerts were "country Kiss."

We were listening to that station when we went to College Station a few weeks ago. It was quite refreshing to hear some of that old stuff again. I think the format would work well in D/FW on a good stick.

Re: “LONE STAR 1190” CLASSIC COUNTRY DEBUTS IN DALLAS/FT. WORTH

Looking back I was disgusted with the way First Broadcasting ran KFXR, just put a jukebox format on. And I bet CC spent some cash getting First to run and try to sell it.

Classic Country might have worked on 1190 had they hired at least live morning/afternoon jocks and did some promotion. KWKH in Shreveport and KKYX in San Antonio are still hanging in there with this format.

FB had no intention of operating 1190 long term. They had a 36 month LMA w/ a purchase option with the intention of improving the nighttime signal (kinda hard to improve the daytime) and then dumping it for profit as they did with the other stations they had in the area. After 24 months and it looked like is wasn't going to happen, they walked away from it. CC was getting 50K/month from FB. CC wasn't spending anything on it.
