“New” translator granted on 107.9 FM in Manhattan!

The former 106.3 translator was granted a channel change to 107.9 from a building in lower Manhattan. 99 watts, highly directional. The new call letters are W300EI.

This translator has been silent 11 months out of the year almost every year since 2011. I remember hearing dance music on 106.3 one day in 2011 when it was on the Empire State Building.

They have until May 2 to start broadcasting on 107.9.

There is a pirate on 107.9 here in Midwood Brooklyn.
 
What will happen to W300CZ in NJ? Their plan to move the translator to NYC just got ruined. Will they try to change channels?
 
Is it just me or does it seem like whoever owns this translator has been exploiting loopholes and abusing the system for over a decade, hoping for an eventual payday, without ever contributing anything of value to NYC's media landscape?

The red circle is the 107.9 allocation, while the blue and green represent the former 106.3 applications. It appears that it will relay 1520 WJDM, a Spanish Christian station on Long Island.
Speaking of KJDM, aren't they moving to 1530 so that they can raise their power to 10kw so they can cover NYC a little better?
 
I wonder why the owner of the translator originally applied for 106.3, instead of 107.9 MHz..
They lost a battle with Press Communications, which operates WKMK 106.3. That kept the translator on very low power, from a much lesser height.

Definitely not WKRF. The best this signal will go is some of the hills in Eastern Morris County facing NYC. It has a very strong signal null in WEBE's direction, plus WEBE's target is Fairfield County and New Haven primarily

1530 with any power is going to have difficulty covering the market. With 10 kw it will only be listenable in the eastern half of Queens, and nowhere else in NYC and the Boroughs. It will only get to Copiague to the east. That's a lot better than the 1 kw signal, but still very limited.

It now covers about 300,000 with a 5 mV/m signal and will increase to about 900,000 with the 10 kw facility.... in a market of 18,000,000.

Definitely not the Hispanic heavy areas of the Bronx and North Manhattan...

WEBE actually comes in very well all the way down to the South Shore of Eastern Nassau County. I can them in HD in my car and even with my directional FM antenna in my attic facing ESB, I still get WEBE at a decent signal. I hope it won’t cause interference as before WHLI put their translator on 104.7, I was able to get them on the receivers in my house. I hope this won’t cause co-channel interference with WEBE.

It shouldn't cause an issue to WEBE where you are and how strong WEBE comes in. I would say it's one of those things where you are stopping at a red light and you get that brief interference from another station.

I cannot listen to 106.3 'cause a pirate kills it in Brooklyn.

WJDM was originally a daytimer on 1530 kHz in Elizabeth, NJ. They went dark in 2020. Then 1520 WTHE on Long Island changed their call letters to WJDM and filed an application to move to 1530 kHz. They'll still be a daytimer, but with 10 kW instead of 1 kW, and 500W instead of 278W during critical hours -- and without the skywave from WWKB in Buffalo barreling down on them as the sun starts to set. (Yeah, I know there's WCKY from Cincinnati on 1530, but they're not as strong in the NYC area as WWKB is.)

I dunno, but WOLD-LP filed for license renewal in January, so I guess they're not going dark as they originally planned as part of the deal with Best Media acquiring W300CZ. (The plan was for WOLD-LP to go dark so W300CZ, also on 107.9, could move to NYC.)
