“Overplayed” songs/artists that you actually like

I think it might be interesting to explore songs and/or artists that get lots of airplay on the radio (mainly on classic hits radio stations) that you actually enjoy listening to. For some people, hearing “In the Air Tonight” one more time is enough to drive them crazy, while some genuinely like to hear it every time it comes on.

Personally, I’m a big fan of Robert Palmer, so if any of his tracks come on, I’m definitely listening to the whole thing.

I'm 23 and have only started listening to Adult Hits and Classic Hits on a regular basis in Fall 2019, so I don't have a high burn rate on most of the music played on the formats since I haven't been hearing the songs for three decades. Therefore, I'll simply go over some favorites:

Michael Jackson
Prince
"Everybody Wants to Rule the World"
"In the Air Tonight"
"Summer of '69"
"Sunglasses at Night"
"Tainted Love"
"Take On Me"
"Your Love"

I could go on a bit more, but that's a general idea of the music from the format I enjoy the most.

You've got great taste in Adult Hits and Classic Hits, jt99! How do you feel about Classic Rock (Metallica, Ozzy, Def Leppard, etc.?)
While I do tune in to Classic Rock every so often, I'm definitely not as well versed there. Heavy metal in particular is a real blind spot of mine, though I do like "Enter Sandman" and a handful of Ozzy/Sabbath songs. In particular, "Paranoid" is one of my favorte '70s songs.

I can't explain it, wouldn't even bother to try, but "Addicted to Love" by Robert Palmer gets a crank of the volume every single time.

KRTH seems to play "Bette Davis Eyes" every night ( JMO), but I still like it because there's a cool synthesizer track to it. It was written by Jackie DeShannon and Donna Weiss. I like Jackie DeShannon's songs, as many of them are very soulful. It was # 1 for 9 non-consecutive weeks in 1981. -- D.

Terrible synthesizer. This song makes me change stations.

Just my opinion.

"Bette Davis Eyes" is a monster smash, reaching #1 for many weeks in L.A. and across the USA in the late spring of 1981. Her follow up to another great single in the summer of 1980, "More Love".

Personally I can't stand the song. Phil has much better sounding records than that one. "Against All Odds", "Another Day in Paradise", "Land of Confusion" among others.

I can enjoy listening to Billy Joel's "Still Rock and Roll to me" and "Uptown Girl" as often as they get played. There are some Billy Joel songs I don't like at all.
What's your take on 1980's "Don't Ask Me Why"?

Maybe not "overplayed" but 2 crossover country/pop songs that I heard recently on classic hits were Kenny Rogers/Dolly Parton
"Islands in the Stream" and Juice Newton "Queen of Hearts". The melody line to these songs is very catchy (JMO), and they are easy sing-alongs, even for people who don't have a voice. I'm glad to hear them on "classic hits" stations. JMO.
