Clever lyrics, but the beat doesn't move me that much. What's your take on 1980's "Don't Ask Me Why"?

It's funny because I used to associate "In the Air Tonight" with Miami Vice. Since the movie The Hangover, I'm more prone to think about what Mike Tyson said just before Phil Collins kicks into the iconic drumming near the end of the song. It's a great track! For some people, hearing “In the Air Tonight” one more time is enough to drive them crazy, while some genuinely like to hear it every time it comes on.
Believe it or not, I'd never heard this song before just now! Guess it's "overplayed" in formats I don't listen to anymore, and not memorable enough to catch my ear in supermarkets, ballparks, restaurants or wherever else it might be played.Might be overplayed, but deservedly so. One of the best and most catchy rhythm tracks of the past 50 years, "Escapade" by Janet Jackson. JMO.
They played it last week at the supermarket, and the lady in front of me in line started dancing. LOL. -Daryl
Anything that Dolly sings is OK with me.....Maybe not "overplayed" but 2 crossover country/pop songs that I heard recently on classic hits were Kenny Rogers/Dolly Parton
"Islands in the Stream" and Juice Newton "Queen of Hearts". The melody line to these songs is very catchy (JMO), and they are easy sing-alongs, even for people who don't have a voice. I'm glad to hear them on "classic hits" stations. JMO.
Love those two songs, grew up with them. Early 80s had a slew of country/pop songs that did well. “Islands in the Stream” is just another great example of a duet style song charting #1 in late 1983. Another song that classic hit radio should embrace is “Angel of the Morning” by Juice Newton. Just fabulous!!Maybe not "overplayed" but 2 crossover country/pop songs that I heard recently on classic hits were Kenny Rogers/Dolly Parton

Absolutely!Another song that classic hit radio should embrace is “Angel of the Morning” by Juice Newton. Just fabulous!!
I like that one. Some people might be tired of this because it's played a lot on classic hits formats and it sounds "too disco-ish", but "September" by Earth, Wind, and Fire is very memorable. JMO -- Daryl
I prefer the original but anything by Juice is good.Another song that classic hit radio should embrace is “Angel of the Morning” by Juice Newton. Just fabulous!!
I like pretty much everything by Billy Joel but "Movin' Out" will make me change stations because of this one annoying part.I can enjoy listening to Billy Joel's "Still Rock and Roll to me" and "Uptown Girl" as often as they get played. There are some Billy Joel songs I don't like at all.
"heart att-ack-ack-ack-ack," perhaps?I like pretty much everything by Billy Joel but "Movin' Out" will make me change stations because of this one annoying part.
Yeah."heart att-ack-ack-ack-ack," perhaps?
I was thinking of the car spinning the wheels, kind of unnecessary in a hit song if you ask me.I like pretty much everything by Billy Joel but "Movin' Out" will make me change stations because of this one annoying part.
Definitely agree with you about those two. Three more that are way overplayed but I still never get tired of hearing are Brown Eyed Girl, Bohemian Rhapsody and Hotel California."Stairway to Heaven," still love it, after all these years. More recent vintage: "Rock the Casbah."
Don't Ask Me Why is one of my favorite Billy Joel songs. I would rank it third on my list of favorites, behind my top favorites Only The Good Die Young (still played fairly often) and Scenes From an Italian Restaurant (not played all that often anymore).Clever lyrics, but the beat doesn't move me that much.
The version that is played on the retro American Top 40 countdowns usually does not contain the car burning out. Heard that version a lot back when it was a hit, but not much since then.I was thinking of the car spinning the wheels, kind of unnecessary in a hit song if you ask me.
I heard it yesterday.Don't Ask Me Why is one of my favorite Billy Joel songs.
I guess I like that one too.Only The Good Die Young (still played fairly often)
Not sure where I heard it. Might have been America's Best Music when I was still listening to that. And I don't recall liking it.and Scenes From an Italian Restaurant (not played all that often anymore).
