1/2 of 107.5 - Sutter Creek on the air

I wonder if they are on the same tower as KGRB? I believe that is adjacent to a private residence near Mt Zion.

KJCN is at their own "site"...its currently a 1-bay antenna on a second-story deck of an uninsulated cabin used for storage. The computer used to broadcast the interesting mix of music is there too with the transmitter inside the cabin...I really don't think their antenna is much more than 10 feet off the foot of that deck. Just a metal pole with a heavy base to keep it from falling over. The surrounding trees (and cabin) are currently taller than that transmit antenna(!)

KCYF-FM's coordinates look to be over 300 ft off of the tower they mention. Their CP coordinates plot out to the side of the road in a turnout.

The location I see from FCC CP shows their site probably about 50 ft from where they built. Their coordinates show them about half way down a dirt farm road off of Ridge Rd. In actuality, they built on the opposite side of the farm road right next to Ridge (their newly-built shed has the 20' tower, 1 bay antenna, and a fascinating antenna that really looks more at home in a ham shack than a transmitter site...maybe its a weird receive antenna for KQBM?)

Not the site I'd choose, but based on the look of the site, they're in it for the long-haul over there...nice views of the Sac valley, though!

Is the antenna horizontal only? I see a CP or 1.3kw Hpol. It shows the height above ground at 40 feet.

Zion ridge is a legit broadcast site. KGRB puts out an impressive signal with 60dBu from Sacramento to Modesto at only 4.3kw!

I do believe that CP was superceded by the CP to put them on Zion. Zion CP calls for 300 watts ERP (mixed, I think. Their antenna appears that way)...about 25 feet off the ground. Sounds great except for the site being surrounded by 50' pines and oaks. If they could mount it on one of the trees or put a slightly higher pole, they may be in business from that location!

300w from there will probably have a similar coverage area to KVGC's FM counterpart, which can be picked up on a decent radio in the Sac suburbs. Not bad for a 100w translator!

Apparently, the KCYF people took their lpfm silent on 12/26.... putting KCYF on the air is dependent on them devesting themselves of the LPFM

107.5 Sutter Creek Update

During this time of social distancing, I was fortunate enough to drive on 49 through Sutter Creek during the morning (when KCYF should be operating). It appears that they are indeed running their morning share-time with all 20 whopping watts of power on the hill near Ridge Rd. Signal barely made it to El Dorado Co. on the way to Placerville. Definitely can’t hear it past Jackson Rancheria to the East

KJCN is still on for their allotted 12 hours in the evening. Unlike before, where there was a mix of punk rock, foreign language pop, and assorted podcasts, there’s only dead air (no legal ID that I can tell either).
