For the first time yesterday I checked out Evolution 101.7 as I'm back in Boston for a little while... I'm not too far out of the demo... but I don't get it. Sitting in my car at 4:45 in the afternoon, I don't have any excitement of a club around me and it's just "thud thud thud bweeeeeepppp thud thud thud blooooorrrppp thud thud".
A lot of these "stars" that the EDM people talk about are only stars in a small circle, not on the level of anyone being played on Kiss or Amp. The only ones that come close are Deadmau5 and Skrillex. It's like a format with only the Beatles and Stones. And I'm not talking about to the small group of fans of this music, I'm talking about to the average radio listener tuning around looking for something to listen to. I understand that "you guys" know all of this, just fans of modern art know all of the people involved too. But most don't, and I don't see how this station will do better in the ratings than the Harbor did, or even WFNX.
Is being 22 that much different than 35? To me it was "Excedrin 101.7".
It is fun with 96.9 spinning the format wheel until they launch the official format.
