10 AM on 96.9, and...

Wheel Of Formats (Was: Re: 10 AM on 96.9, and...)

I suspect we'll be seeing two more stunt formats tomorrow (Saturday, January 5th) and Sunday (January 6th) before the "permanent" format begins Monday (January 7th).

How about "Chant 96.9" for tomorrow, with 24 hours of Gregorian chants, followed by "Static 96.9" for the day before the official format launches, which would be a looped sound effect of static with imaging and legal ID's four or five times an hour ("WTKK Boston, Static 96.9, bringing you the best in static 'round the clock").

A "static" stunt wouldn't be new for Boston: Back in 2009, when WBMX moved from 98.5 to 104.1, I believe the old frequency played a looped sound effect of "static" for 24 hours with legal ID's being the only other thing broadcast.

I still suspect a "pure" Urban Contemporary format, given Pebbles' arrival at Greater Media (and presumably at 96.9).

Nope, not a pure urban format. Rhythmic/Urban Gold I still guess.

Funny thing is, with all these format changes on 96.9 in the last few days, my MP# Walkman (Sanza). it is the BOMB!!!
It is FM Radio, most ALLL FM Stations in Boston comes in EXCELENT both inside and outside the city. I mostly listen my SD Card that I loaded music on to.
The FM Radio list the station and the song that is playing
"Evoloution 101.7" listed on there the first day they launched, as well as "Power 96.9" and now "Nova 96.9"
that's the cool thing.

At least 96.9 comes in just fine for my Walkman at South Station and Downtown Crossing, unlike 94.5, which only gets better once west of the Allston/Brighton toll on I-90.

It sounds Just like its sister station in Phildelphia 95.7 BEN-FM

same Logo too time will tell if 96.9 Mike-fm is real

I wonder what Saturday and Sunday's stunt-formats are going to be, maybe oldies or rock?

How about "The Rock Of Boston", or "Alternative Boston"? 8)

I would say no chance of it happening, but after the Mike 96.9 thing, they just might have the b#lls to do it.

I love how many of you are getting your panties in a bunch over this. 24.4% of the population was offended? You really think a 1/4 of the population was listening to 96.9 for a day? They haven't even settled on a format and DOZENS of you are already dismissing the station as stale and boring. Very ignorant.

Enjoy it! I love epic stunts like this, shaking it up. Relax, dudes. This is radio, we're having fun.

Great post. Agreed, this is the most fun Boston radio has seen in a LONG time... I work for another radio company and even I am tuning in daily to hear what is coming next.

I'm thinking Monday morning the true format will finally be revealed... or perhaps they will keep it going for another week? What does everyone else think?

I wouldn't bet on any form of rock on 96.9. Keep in mind WROR and Radio 92.9 are siblings in that cluster.

Greater Media refers to this as a "transformation" of 96.9 which will continue for a few days: http://www.greatermedia.com/?p=4339

Why use terms like "stunting" or "format switch/change" when a fancy word will do?

"Transformation" is one of the new buzzwords in corporate-speak. For example, Madison Square Garden in NYC is undergoing a transformation over the summers of 2011, 2012 + 2013. They refuse to use the words "renovation", "remodeling" or "rebuilding" to describe the gutting of the building and installation of new seating, suites, amenities, etc.

The studio needs to be set up for music. The morning show may need a dry run or two. Doubt it will be next week.

According to Greater Media's press release about Pebbles, she's been there since Jan. 2nd. The dry runs have already happened, and I would think the new format would go live sometime later this weekend, with Pebbles in morning drive Monday. Could also be sometime Monday, with Pebbles launching Tuesday. But not later than that.
