10 kHz AM Frequency of the Week - 1140 kHz

What do you get on 1140?

Here in Vermilion, OH it is IBOC hash from WDFN during the day and WRVA near sunset and overnight with a solid signal.

Days it's severe splatter from KKNW 1150.

Nights I still get severe splatter, but occasionally CHRB High River, AB punches in. Other catches were KGEM-ID and KHTK-CA.

From NE NC. 1140 WRVA day and night. Some nights they dissapear and I get Spanish but never have ID them.

Western Washington state.

Night time I've logged KGEM, Boise and CHRB, High River, Alberta, usually on different bearings.

A long time ago I logged KRAK, Modesto, well before it became KHTK, Sacramento.

Here near Columbus, Ohio, nothing days and all WRVA at night. It's a blaster. I particularly remember flipping through and hearing teir oldies show Saturday nights and hearing Big John talking to all the truckers.

Just south of Pittsburgh, it's WRVA nights and, now, WRVA days
(as a local on 1130 has signed-off for good). Amazing how clearly they
boom in here with that signal gone.

WGBN, a gospel station on 1150, has filed for a power increase now that
1130 is gone. So we'll see how long daylight reception of WRVA holds up.

WBXR, Hazel Green, AL daytime - anyone hear this?
WRVA, Richmond, VA nights

Just northwest of Richmond, its WRVA daytime, and WRVA sort of spotty at night. Sometimes its clear others I can barely hear it.

Funny thing is that back in August, I was in Steubenville, Ohio and I could hear them loud and clear at night, much better than being nearly on their doorstep.

Far northwest suburbs of Chicago.....

Days: Sometimes a very week WVEL (Peoria, IL area) with WISN splatter nulled.

Nights: All WRVA...usually with a pretty good signal. I've also caught KSOO (Sioux Falls, SD) a few times before they've gone to night pattern.

Crystal Lake, IL

Daytime: (these now rarely heard only IF WISN's IBOC is off,
or near critical hours in the fall-winter-spring)
WVEL Pekin, IL
WVHF Kentwood, MI

Critical Hours:
KSOO Sioux Falls, SD
WSAO Senatobia, MS

Nighttime:
WRVA Richmond, VA
XEMR Monterrey, NL, MEX (rare, during auroral conditions)

SW Ohio

Days
Nada

Sunrise WRVA is the only frequently heard.
WRNA China Grove NC
WRVA Richmond VA
WRLV Salyersville KY
WAWK Kendallville IN

Sunset WRVA is the only frequently heard.
WVEL Pekin IL - Think they stayed on day power a bit longer than usual.
WBXR Hazel Green AL
WMMG - Brandenburg KY
WRVA Richmond VA

Night
WRVA Richmond VA
May have heard Cuba, but I don't log Cubans. In my world, Cuba doesn't exist.

How far out of Richmond do you live? You're probably in the groundwave/skywave cancellation zone. I know it used to be around 75 miles at night for WOWO when it ran 50K, so I'm guessing it'd be about the same for WRVA, although never having been to Richmond I don't know. It's about 100 miles for WLW, 150 or so for WSCR and WGN and 65-75 for WLS and WMVP.

Palos Township, IL- Nothing during the day, but WRVA at night. I hear them as early as 2 PM during the cold weather months. That means right now.

In East Texas near Tyler, it's a somewhat weak KHFX Cleburne during the day. As a D/FW area wannabee with adjacent channel issues, they send more signal this direction than toward the northern areas of Fort Worth or Dallas. At night they're gone, replaced by a solid XEMR Monterrey.
