10 kHz AM Frequency of the Week - 1410 kHz

What can you get on 1410 AM?

Here in Vermilion, OH it is a weak mix of WING/Dayton, OH (sports) and WNWZ/Grand Rapids, MI (comedy) during the day.
I have heard WRIS/Roanoke, VA around sunrise and near sunset while they are on 5 kW day power.
Nighttime is mush.

Northern VA,

Usuallly nothing days...sometimes a trace of WHAG Halfway, MD near the PA border and in the Hagerstown, MD area. Nights, it's usually KQV Pittsburgh.

Near Hazleton in NE PA :

'Oldies 1410 WLSH' -- they're not afraid to say the 'O' word -- is pretty much a local here. When I'm on a job in St. Clair or Mar-Lin, though, with the portable, they get nibbled a bit even before sunset by WDOV in Delaware. Some gal with one name (Amy?) does a very good all-request/dedication show each midday.
A daytimer, WLSH is the AM sister to WMGH 105.5. When Arbitron used to list all the stations publicly, WLSH was one of just two stations from Schuylkill County to edge frequently into the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre book. The other was the huge T-102.

WELM Elmira NY is another sunset nibbler on 1410, with 5000 watts omni in the day.

I don't keep very accurate logs anymore, but from this locale I did get a nice tape of the religious station from Mobile Alabama one night. Their calls are now WNGL (as in 'evangelical') , but I heard them with other letters. Perhaps someone forgot to turn it directional at sundown for that evening.

Far northwest suburban Chicago....

Day: 1kw ND local rimshot WRMN, Elgin, IL ....about 15 miles south of me with a good signal.

Night: WRMN at 500 watts directional. I'm just at the edge of their main lobe (to the northeast), so the signal is still pretty decent, but not as good as daytime. I can usually hear stuff underneath, WING being the most likely to be identifiable.

Near north Chicago suburbs: WRMN day (fair) at night usually WING over WRMN with others.

Crystal Lake, IL

Daytime:
WRMN Elgin, IL

Sunrise/Sunset:
KCLO Leavenworth, KS (now KKLO)
WHLN Harlan, KY

Nighttime:
KQV Pittsburgh, PA
WING Dayton, OH
WIZM LaCrosse, WI

From NE NC car radio. 1410 days nothing strong enough to ID. Sunrise/sunset WPOP Hartford, CT, KQV Pittsburg, PA , WDOV Dover, DE and WHLN Harlan, KY. Nights is usually KQV on top.

1410 KGSO Wichita, KS is the dominate station here near McKinney TX.

SW Suburbs of Chicago:

Daytime- Absolutely nothing (static)
Sunrise/Sunset- KKLO (Big DX from KS)
Night- Distant WRMN (Elgin, IL) and WIZM (LaCrosse, WI)

*One of my favorite frequencies to DX.

On 1410 daytime in Bothell it used to be CFTE Vancouver. Barely get anything here at noontime in Bellevue.

I've also gotten KBNP Portland, OR and KMYC Marysville, CA, both nighttime.
